What went wrong with free speech in America?
Republicans seem to want to control free speech even when there’s nothing wrong with what is being said!

Protester outside McCain event ticketed - The Denver Post

Denver Police Arrest Librarian Holding “McCain = Bush” Sign at Rally

And in campaign news, Denver police arrested a sixty-year-old librarian Monday on trespassing charges after she tried to enter a John McCain rally in a city-owned building holding a sign that read “McCain = Bush.” Carol Kreck was removed from the event by four city police officers.

Carol Kreck: “The ticket was for trespassing. He said if I came back into the plaza, I would be arrested and taken to jail. [The sign] says ‘McCain = Bush’. Now, in a Republican [event], why is that offensive? Why would Republicans who voted for Bush find it offensive that a sign says ‘Bush = McCain’ or ‘McCain = Bush’?”

Carol Kreck was arrested at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. A spokesperson at the center said the venue is a city-owned rental property, but she claimed the building is not legally defined as public property. Denver is the site of the Democratic National Convention in August.

I'm not a McCain supporter, but I would hesitate to call this an attack on free speech. First off, the event was being held on private property. Secondly, the Secret Service may have requested removal of those signs for reasons other than the message printed on them (we don't know, as the Secret Service didn't comment). There could very well have been safety issues involved (it's a big sign and you can't see what's behind it).

There are certainly bigger targets in this country when it comes to violations against free speech. This is not a good one.

But ignoring these (apparently numerous) small violations contributes to the right of free speech being withdrawn. I think this is a big violation. If you can't carry a sign of support for your cause at a political event, then only those who don't speak at all will be allowed to attend. How does this affect participation in a democracy? Answer: it discourages it and lays the groundwork for fascism and totalitarianism.

The same thing expected out of Democrats. Cant count the number of people ousted when they're speaking.
Like when John "Im a flip-floping and my face is dead" Kerry was running for president.
Or when Michael "Im a fat piece of ****" Moore was speaking.
They're all part of the same hypocrisy.

Thumbs down More of the McSAME

So what is the problem with the McCain = Bush sign that the lady in Denver was holding up?

Why are republicans upset with it? Aren’t they proud of what they gave the nation for the past 7 ½ years?

And this is a freedom of speech problem while she was outside of the building.

I could careless about the free spech but it seems that the speech has really turn to hate speech and so much obvious propoganda aimed to move a certain group of haters. I detest the hecklers at places where the candidates speak. To me it is interferring with peoples right to listen to the candidates; and anti-free speech. I think protest outside that do not distrub the meeting are fine. But when they get violent to where the police have to stepin that is just a shame on thsoe people that do it IMO.Its like epople who protest at soldiers funerls'it just makes civilized behavior seem to be a thing of the past.
