We already are. The state of Alaska just recently leased 36,000 acres on Mount Spurr and Mount Augustine (two active volcanoes in south central Alaska) for the purpose of studying the possibility and viability of using geothermal power. (See Mount Spurr Geothermal Lease Sale No. 3)

Both Anchorage and Juneau get their primary source of power from hydroelectric dams.

Bethel, Alaska, just recently installed a 100 kilowatt wind generator. By the way, the residents of Bethel are already paying over $5.75/gallon for regular gasoline. Monthly heating bills during the winter will be more than $1,000.

Many Alaskan households this summer have added wood-burning stoves to help cut the cost of heating their homes this coming winter.

Alaska is not just about oil. Any viable alternative will do and is explored. Vehicles, however, require gasoline or diesel and gasoline or diesel is made from oil. Electric and natural gas power vehicles are not viable alternatives. Hybrids may work better, time will tell.

Doing nothing but increasing our foreign dependence is what is stupid, not drilling in ANWR.
From the U.S. Department of Energy:

"ANWR oil resource case, additional oil production resulting from the opening of ANWR reaches 780,000 barrels per day in 2027 and then declines to 710,000 barrels per day in 2030."

"Additional oil production resulting from the opening of ANWR would be only a small portion of total world oil production, and would likely be offset in part by somewhat lower production outside the United States."

A document put together by a bunch of anti-American Clinton lackies can hardly be construed as factual. Look at actual history. Construction began on the 800 mile trans-Alaska pipeline in 1975. By 1977 the pipeline was completed and oil was being produced. By 1989 Prudhoe Bay was pumping 1.8 million barrels per day (its peak). That is reality. What you posted is pure fiction put together to suit a political agenda.

Who the f*** told you that you were qualified to judge anyone's level of patriotism? That same, tired tactic has been used by some of the most revolting people in this country (against different races and faiths, for one). Buy a new tag line.

And the same can be said for most of the bullsh*t coming from the Righties and FOX.

By the way, how's that bridge comin along, eh?

Anyone who supports the destruction of the United States is by definition anti-American. That accurately describes the left-wing freaks who are more sympathetic towards al Qaeda than their fellow Americans. Anything these anti-American leftist scum can do to bring harm to the US, they will do. Such as preventing an increase in domestic oil production when it is needed the most.

The bridge is coming along fine, now that we have the federal funds.

This analysis I referenced was produced in May, 2008.

George Tenet didn't resign until June 2004, but that didn't make him any less of an anti-American Clinton lackey.

I'm afraid I have you by the balls Mr. Glitch. The US Dept. of Energy is currently staffed by 96% Republicans and 4% Democrats.

In the last 5 years I have yet to meet ANYONE who is sympathetic toward al Qaeda. My husband and I are Independents living in a very Right-wing, bible-thumping part of Indiana.

We're also the ONLY family within 3 blocks adorned with the American flag.

Ok, I'm done. No more feeding the troll.
