WOOOOOOWEEEEEEEEE-I could not have said it better myself brother!!!!

I'll add this on my behalf, the contract we have puts over $5.00 an hour I work to the health in my union.-Can't remember exact amount
That's $2.00 generic, or name brand "medical necessary", or $20.00+ difference between generic and name brand if you absolutely want it.(scripts)
No office deduct.
$500 office ded. a year
$750 hosp. ded. a year
I can see any specialist without primary doc. note
Mental health
some physical therapy
Dental
eyeglasses
So that's x40=$200 week, or $800.00 a month that's paid on my behalf.

So if I can get this same coverage through uncle sam, pay the same, and everyone's covered-fine, those little $5.00 an hour will go back on my check.
If something is offered that is insane, and I still need my Union Health that I will pay dues on, I am not for paying one more dime in taxes, over paying for myself-NO WAY-NO HOW

These are the current World Health Organization rankings by country. Almost all of the countries ranked above the US have some sort of government sponsored healthcare system. As for people dying waiting for care, please. I lived in the Netherlands for 5 years and never had to wait for anything - including a masectomy, radiation, etc. On the contrary, my mother also had these procedures done in America (with health insurance), which totalled thousands of dollars in out of pocket expenses for the treatment and continuing medication. If she did not have insurance, or the credit to take out a loan to pay the medical bills, she would have died.

Some people should really get their facts straight.

Well, let me be one the "fools" -

UHC is not needed.

Reforms to Healthcare delivery are needed.

Making health insurance more affordable is needed -

But, to create an entirely government run system is not needed.

Wow, you really don't know much about those countries' healthcare systems either. For starters, the original question pertained to "free healthcare." Unless doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals are enslaved and medicines and equipment and real estate are stolen to provide for the people, there is no such thing as "free healthcare." Those countres have very expensive healthcare, just like the U.S. The only real difference is that those who prefer to sit around at home instead of working -- go to France or Germany and you'll find plenty such able-bodied people -- get a free ride when it comes to healthcare. The rest of the population pays for it through very high taxes. And I know for a fact that in Germany, one contributes a very high amount of money from each paycheck toward health insurance. The government matches.

Sorry, but actually I do. I was not taking the "free healthcare" literally, as I am very aware that a healthcare system costs money. I was speaking of a government sponsored healthcare system that is either free or at a very low cost to the citizens. I do not need to go to France, I have lived there and experienced the system for myself. I also lived on the border of the Netherlands and Germany and know about the German system as well. Of course there will always be people in every country that gets a free ride from the government, there are millions currently doing that in the US.

Of course taxes are higher in Europe, I am not disputing that. However, those high taxes from my paycheck paid for:

- My childrens college and post graduate education
- Their healthcare until they were 18
- 6 months of maternity leave
- efficient public transportation
- NO homeless people on the streets
- worry free healthcare
- clean cities with beautiful parks, recreational areas

I could go on and on. Not to mention if I was to retire there, I would receive 80% of my salary for the rest of my life.

And yes, in the Netherlands you do pay for a portion of your healthcare, HOWEVER you will never pay a dime, a penny out of pocket. Also, if you do not use your health insurance, you receive a rebate at the end of the year for hundreds of dollars. I believe this is the system in Germany as well.

Oh, and do tell, did you walk the streets of France and Germany and count the "able bodied" people getting a free ride? Just curious.

Why would we want any of that crap? It is the peoples choice!
- Choose to be educated
- Babies can take care of themselves
- I'll drive my 4x4 with boat attached instead
- Homeless keep the streets clean of leftovers
- We like to worry a lot.
- We prefer smog and DisneyLand

I spent just over a week in Berlin, and have spent quite a bit of time there before as well. Yes, that city is full of able-bodied people getting a free ride. Too many to count.

I don't dispute the high standard of living that Europe has, but what your post does not take into account is the lack of sustainability of it all, something which is a serious issue.

Finally, the heavy involvement of the state comes at a serious cost in terms of liberty. Bureaucracy in many European countries is suffocating. But I suppose that's another issue...
