Wow! You people are ultimate sheep! You put a lot of trust into other people because criminals can only be in front of the camera and not behind it right? I cant wait for this to happen so they can see you spanking your child for being bad and then the cops some to take you to jail! Cameras at the park? How about cameras at the public pools so camera operator Tom the unknown sex predator can take pictures of your lovely daughters and do god knows what. Wait, how did unappropriate pictures of my children end up on a internet porn site? Hmmmmmmm..... How about cameras at the beach, you know when you had that accident in your swimsuit? Yup, all of your fellow employees saw it and now you dont feel comfortable at work no more.

You sheep dont understand, its not about the fact that you do nothing wrong its about PRIVACY! Something nazi Germany had none of. You say you do nothing wrong but what if they change the laws and now smoking cigarretes is illegal, yep, your a criminal now in jail you will sit. The people that are for this are the same creeps you should be worried about. They dont care if everyone can see them masterbate in their own house so just imagine. What about business secrets? You cant even conduct business over the phone because PEOPLE are listening. Would you feel safe getting on the phone and talking about multi-million dollar investment secrets? (Conservative voice)-"No one in the government would spy on your money." Sorry but I dont believe you! "We have to keep an eye on everyone" says Hitler. Why? " Uh uh um....so we can make sure the criminals dont commit crimes, "says Hitler.

I have a huge problem with the government watching everything I do.

...the problem is, they're already doing it. Ever see the movie "Enemy of State"?

Anyone can go on Zillow or Microsoft Terraserver and get an aerial view of their own house via satellite. Does anyone honestly think that what you can get as a private citizen for free is the limit of this technology?

Trust me, if you held your American Express card up to the sky, the NSA could tell you when it's going to expire.

A surveillance camera installed in a park is not going to watch everything you ever do.

Well thank you for stating the obvious, glad you showed up when you did.

Let me re-phrase that.

I don't want my government having the ability to watch me at will. The problem with many of the proponents of this is they lack the ability to think outside the box. You have no idea who is running these systems. You have no idea if someone is going to decide to track YOU, so they know when to send their buddies to rob your house. You have no idea if the person monitoring the cameras is not secretly a pedophile looking for a target. You just don't know, and never will. You can put all the safeguards in place that you want.

We just had a nine year old steal his parents car, then manage to board a plane completely ticketless. Now imagine if this was one of the children of an Islamic extremist who has already been brainwashed into hating Americans. Kids are dealing drugs at nine years old, no reason why they can't be suicide bombers. Not to worry though, you still have to take off your shoes before getting into the terminal, lol. What a joke.

Thats the problem with a lot of things in this world today.
Some people just don't think, and there are others that are waiting to take advantage of their ignorance.

Thumbs up Common Sense!

This whole conversation has been blown way out of proportion. The CIA, FBI, or Al Qaeda is not worried about you in the park. Their not spying on you in the park bathroom, and they aren't staring endlessly at you walking your dog through the park, or you swinging your kids on the swings. This is for local law enforcemnent to counter crime, whether it be individuals or gangs. Saying I have no idea whose running these systems, is like saying "which aliens are watching me?" It's absolutely absurd.

lol, well you keep right on thinking that way.

I'm happy that you are naive enough to think that this sort of thing would be good for the general public. That means you have had a fairly sheltered life.

I am however sad for you that you cannot comprehend the pitfalls with something like this. Everything has it's yin and yang. This is just one of those things where the con side of the list is too long for me to stomach. It is not only a bad idea, but it sets a precedent for much worse things to come. Make all the jokes about "aliens" that you want to, but there is a real threat out there already when it comes to "big brother". It just hasn't been exploited to its full potential yet.

The only people installing park cameras are city officials, law enforcement, or park officials. The only thing they are looking for is suspicious activity to deter crime levels. It's not difficult to comprehend. I think lowering crime is a positive for the general public, not worrying whether people know you have three labs instead of two, which obviously no one cares about.

Whew, lol. You really can't even imagine the possibilities something like this has, can you? Yeah, I know what it is at face value, that's not the problem. That's just the selling point.

Saying "that will never happen" is not going to keep it from happening. Nobody would DARE hijack multiple commercial airliners, then fly them only a couple thousand feet off the ground into two of the tallest buildings in the world. It just can't happen, right?

You are probably a very good person inside, who fortunately has not been exposed to the lower half of society very much. Take a minute, and think about it. You can't focus on all the good this can do. I think we all realize the good things that can come from this. What you need to do is focus on what can go wrong. How can a system like this be manipulated to violate the public trust? How can an unscrupulous government employee gain access to these systems and use them for personal gain? What could possibly go wrong in our government 10, 20, 100 years from now where something like this could be used against the citizens of this country?

You may think these things are far fetched, but so was television in 1900. Who would have imagined back then that a large portion of our population would spend their days and nights staring into a box only 100 years later? Did you think in 1980 that you would spend hours every day staring at a computer later in life, sometimes having conversations like this one? Did you think that someone could steal your legal identity from doing the same thing?

Did you think that a police officer would be convicted of raping a captive with a plunger in NYC?

Did you think that George Bush would ever be dumb enough to send MORE troops to Iraq?

Did you ever think that someone would lace your Tylenol with cyanide?

Did you ever think that someone could kidnap a little boy and get away with it for FOUR years? With the boy still alive?

Did you ever think "The Terminator" would be the governor of your state someday when you first watched the movie?

lol, things happen, all the time. People are capable of some STUPID, and downright evil things. That is what you need to keep in mind when you allow them to infringe on your right to privacy as a trade-off for personal security.

really people need to relax about these things. grocery stores and shops have them, highways have them, if you have nothing to hide then there is nothing to worry about. just smile and wave!!!

Why would installing cameras in parks increase kidnapping or (irrelevent) house robberies? Have robberies increased because there are security cameras in private businesses? If anything, they act as deterrents. Teenagers will probably be less than thrilled about vandalizing parks because there are similar consequences if they were to steal at the mall. If there wasn't a camera in a park and a kidnapping occured, who would provide a description for an Amber Alert?

I don't see everyone complaining about lack of privacy when John Doe can watch live traffic feeds online and knows "when to rob homes". I don't see everyone complaining aoubt private helicopter companies that have free reign to take high resolution photographs of your home and property. Do I even need to mention cellphone cameras that can shoot video of ANYTHING and post it on YouTube or, even worse, a pornographic website? I guess because they are "government instituted" cameras that must mean they are threatening your rights to privacy. Last time I checked, when you willingly enter public property, much of your rights to privacy are foregone.
