Even though the facts of external discrimination against all blacks needs to be mentioned, I just hope that this documentary really shows and hold accountable problems that are caused by underclass and militant blacks (perpetuating of stereotypes, lacking parental responsibility, clinging to welfare, chastising successful, smart and industrious blacks) instead of giving them a pity party parade. In addition, I really hope they show the portion of blacks who are succeeding and are successfully assimilating into the American mainstream (maybe if CNN got out of Atlanta - and in that case, goes almost anywhere west of the Mississippi River), they may actually find blacks who have truly made it.

Nice to see most of the posters here spouting off without having seen the show, or studied the situation. Are there black militants? Sure. Are some blacks gangsters? Yes. Is there severe disintegration of the black family? Yes again.
However. Are blacks still (often) discriminated in hiring, pay and promotions? Anyone who thinks not needs to take a good, hard look around their workplace. It's pretty difficult to call that something that "they bring on themselves". golfgod |

I for one am just tired of the constant efforts to maintain that divide. And more and more, the effort doesn't seem to be put forth by caucasians.
I'm sick of this kind of drek being propagated. We all have our cross to bear, (yes, even white people!) and it's time to suck it up and get living. |

Maybe we should all reserve judgement until the dang show airs. I really don't know what to expect from this documentary, but i'm sure it'll be interesting. There will probably be things we've heard before and some we'll be surprised by. I'll wait and see.

My relative in HR works for a major US company and has confided about how said companies push for diversity has pushed some minorities into higher levels in the company than they would have acheived as "white men". In general, life isn't fair and that's too bad. ![]() |

Many blacks have been taught that if you are educated you are now considered a threat. Now I do not care to have people respond with ignorant statements about if blacks did this or did that. I empower people everyday by speaking into their strengths, yet speaking to them about how they need to help themselves as well. It starts with their own ambitions. Everyone has not had my world, most blacks have not had my world. I have a unique life thus far and it has afforded many learning opportunties. Do we have many deficits-sure we do and that has not been denied, but I am not going to spend the rest of my life defending those in my race who choose to make mistakes and not learn from them. It comes down to individual choices. We all know that some blacks have made it but it does not guarantee us that we will not endure any discrimination now that we have supposedly made it. What is made it anyway?? My "making it" may not be your "making it." |
