So that would be one more physcological issue for homosexuals to overcome, "self loathing".

Just another crappy story to make Oklahoma look like a very bad, backward, third world place. Would you move to Oklahoma? I would think the answer would be, no way, shape or form, unless you hate homosexuals.

oklahoma has low cost of living. I would think that perhaps someone who wanted a better quality of life would move to oklahoma. you might be shocked, but these so called "hate crimes" happen everywhere.

It's pretty sad what this guy is going through. I'm sure he is pretty stressed out and I DO hope the Police catch these a$$hats. He appears to be a pretty good neighbor to me, and his neighborhood is concerned.

There are a few states the media won't report anything good about and will only report news to re-enforce a negative stereotype. I notice this mostly with Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, and West Virginia.

The biggest problem with lower cost of living states are the jobs. They're lower paying than comparable ones in other states. Therefore, most people end up finding they won't really get ahead by moving to a low cost state.

you can find good jobs in ok city. cost of living is low as well. but that's off topic. this type of stuff happens everywhere. no sense in bashing one state when we could come up with 50 examples from all 50 states of things like this happening.

oneworld25 is on a distinguished road
Although, I believe that there are plenty of good arguments for and against hate crimes, in my opinion this is not the issue at hand with regards to this story. In my mind the problem is that Oklahoma has a hate crimes statute yet somehow gays are not worthy of protection from it.

Maybe those states deserve it. Did you hear the embarrassingly bizarre story about the Oklahoma judge who got fired because he used a penis pump to masturbate with while conducting court? Maybe some people would love to move to Oklahoma just to get a big hoot out of reading the news. I know of one person who did just that a couple decades ago. He later set up a web site called bubbaworld.com to tell it like it is in Oklahoma.

Well, after all that, I think some of the most remarkable people in this nation are the gays in Oklahoma who are out, yet accomplish noteworthy firsts. One gay from Oklahoma City two years ago got elected as the first openly gay Oklahoma State Representative. And surprisingly, doesn't have to deal with reelection because no one filed to oppose him.

For the first time an openly gay person is running for a state wide office for corporation commissioner. With all the homophobia in the state, lesser gays would have fled the state for San Francisco, Las Vegas, or elsewhere.
