Looks like fundraising is in full swing for tha Nation's first Presidential library that will be run by a partisan think tank, not the University itself.

Here's a video of a paid Bush lobbyist promising access to the Bush administration in return for a $200K donation to the Bush library.

give credit to the student body and most of faculty at SMU that are trying to get the Methodist church to stop being a wimp and say NO to the think tank--that is not historial aspect of his presidency but ongoing-advocacy for his thought process and political philosophy--which advocates war and other "unchristian" activities
they are protesting and doing what they can to bring something unclean to their campus--more power to them...unfortunately unless someone more powerful than Bush and right now I know of only one higher power gets involved the think tank will likely be part and parcel of the library...

Everyone knows that a University should have no part in any type of thinking other than what is officially approved by academia and the Methodist church. The majority of the faculty who shares such sentiments should be applauded for keeping the unclean and incorrect thinking off of such an esteemed campus.

Bravo brave SMU professors, Bravo!

As an SMU student, I will say that I am not worried about a "think tank." A university, as a whole, is a "think tank."

My only concern is that the Bush Institute will not be under SMU control.

exactly--and what THAT think tank thinks--which is really an oxymoron since Bush can't think and I doubt that he would choose advisors for this who would be any more open to true analytical thought--will inevitably be tied to SMU and its reputation...

Exactly...I'd have no problem with it whatsoever if Bush gave SMU even a slight measure of control.

Bush is just trying to control his legacy, which is silly. I don't understand why SMU caved on control- if Bush wants to have his own library with his own public policy institute, then why associate it with a University?

Part of being a good leader is being able to look critical at yourself and the people around you. Unfortunately, Bush has been unable/unwilling to do that for the past eight years, and this library is yet another example of that.

Honestly, SMU just needs to be like, you know what? We'll pass. Open up the library in Crawford, Texas and you can do whatever you want with it. SMU just seems so desperate for national cred that it's basically pandering and caving. ugh.

SMU has national cred - it's constantly rated in the top 100 universities in America, including a ranking of 13 by Forbes Magazine recently.

The library will be an amazing benefit to the university. The institute, however, is dangerous and could destroy any possible benefit SMU receives from the library.

I was sort of wondering if anyone would open a Bush Crime Family War Crime Memorial Library, [here in Dallas, whilst this is still on the Dallas section of City Data, Moderator cut: do not refer to the moderating staff in derogatory terms ] or some such "think tank."

Could detail optimized torture, kidnappings, tips on lying to the nation and the UN. All those things they have really become known and beloved for by all.

Hmmm. don't forget global warming, poverty hunger, and general naughtiness by children everywhere. He also was the shooter on the grassy knoll, killed (and hid!) Jimmy Hoffa, and you remember that whole "New Coke" fiasco in the 1980's? Yup, George W. Bush masterminded the whole thing as a plot to control oil resources and increase American global domination.
