It doesn't matter if 99% of the American people want offshore drilling, if she's a smart and responsible elected official, she'll do whatever the constituents in her district want her to do. If they oppose drilling, or don't mind if she opposes it, then so be it.
Except that as Speaker of the House, she is beholden to more than just the people of her district. Otherwise, her district would be in control of the entire nation.

Pelosi is right on the money. We will never develop any other form of energy when oil is cheap from the Arabs or from fouling up the coast. The "common American" needs to cut back on using up the planet like a pig. The "common American" uses 25 times the resources other people use- even in developed nations like those in Europe. And we are not going to allow our shores to be fouled with drilling rigs and clumps of oil in the sand on our beaches. There is a reason New Orleans doesn't have beaches.
The offer to put consideration of offshore exploration on the calendar has been sitting out there for quite a while. Republicans have been willing to take it only if they got to write the rules, and as leverage, they've been holding up commodity market reform (which would cut gas prices much more and more quickly than any exploration or drilling plan) and so-called tax-extenders. The Republican position in this is basically that money should come out of your pocket and go instead to big oil companies and hedge-fund managers...
Good for Pelosi to not allow the giveaway to the big oil companies of our precious shores! For once she showed some balls on something.
I think she might want to do a Jessie and cut off Obama's b@lls after his change of opinion, LOL. Should make an interesting item at the convention. To drill or not to drill, that is the question.
