I tried not to generalize but to state my experiences,as mentioned in my original post -

If this forum is any indication, people from the major cultural centers look heavily down on people from smaller cities, who still could be classified as "city people." Both the big city crowd and the small city crowd tend to look down on the rural dwellers. "Country folk" are generally cliquish, not accepting to outsiders, and they despise city life and urban elitists.

The small city people are gassed up because they have indoor plumbing. Don't worry. They'll be put back in their place.

Well since I came up in a rural area,as I ended up in larger and more populated cities, never did I end up looking down on rural dwellers. And while I do tend despise city life,I wouldn't call where I came from cliquish, nor when I lived in the larger country areas. As I had stated,I made more friends out there as an 'outsider' than I did in any of the 'city' areas I lived in.

Question Interesting thoughts

honestly though what about the intolerant, racist, homophobic, unambitious, uneducated , rural people who knock up a girl ASAP out of high school and then move into a trailer or crappy falling apart farm house next to their mom's and then decorate the yard with cars on blocks and piles of scrap metal, what would be the proper term for them?

or how about all the deadbeat rural people who rent places from my GF's family and then welsh on the rent, cut down trees which are not theirs to use for fire wood, drill holes in the walls for their wood stove they didn't get permission to install. Or stack furniture outside in the elements, like its going to usable come spring ?

Yeah, rural people are so independent, and superior
And I am sure you know people like you've described? I was born in the city, raised in suburbia, moved out and lived in rural and semi-rural areas, and after a foreclosure, now live back in the almost urban suburbs, not by my choice bro.

Here is what gets me, like was posted earlier, there is a swap between the two as far as rural people working in the city, and vice versa and by the way, without the country, you could not eat, nor shop at the mall or eat at restaurants. Why? Everything arrives to you on a plane, train, semi-truck, or delivery van, and the food comes from the country, yes, even McD's homeboy.

You are not allowed to urban farm any animals, which, last I checked, is more or less a life requirement (yes the vegans and veggies are healthy but are deficient in fiber and other benefits meats and birds can provide and need to supplement that with other means).

Also, the next town away from me (monticello, MN), was next to Buffalo where I lived, but in monti, it was on I-94 and I could be in the heart of downtown Minneapolis/St. Paul in 15-20 minutes and be back to my "rural" home faster than you! in rush hour everyone going home is going your way, but my way is fast as the speed limit without bumper to bumper and hitting the brakes every two seconds, so think about that.

Also, where did I grow up? that's right, the CITY, and no, even those growing up in the sticks are not all crazy hillbilly redneck white trash hicks.

I'd highly advise you to live it and learn it before judging it or stating the popular vote.

The country boys take pride in their work, families, and their women and don't call them "hoes", don't use their "pimp hand" as much as you'd like to have everyone believe.

You're from what, NEW YORK? HA! Sorry but Boy, you got some learning to do and respect that needs to be taught about life.

The city is all materialistic and I guarantee if you took away the malls, restaurants, bars and nightclubs (betcha didn't know the country has them too, and they also play hip hop and rock, country as well!), you would actually have LESS than the country areas and more crime, pollution, stress, and then what incentive to stay there?

Waiting on this good answer.

Yall better be kidding. I have been to the city everyone is equal except for the fact I almost got kidnapped in LA until I wreslted some sence into him with my pocket knife and fist and this is when i was 8 years old after that my dad started cussing at the guy and beat him up. Yes, I had wondered off from my parents i was outside of the hotel playing with my pocket knife. btw i am a girl. But other people i met were very nice i was laughed at by some other kids though for my accent i really wanted to go home then. But there was a girl that i liked she was kind and did not care. But when yall talk about our accents it makes me feel frustated and sad at the same time. T-T I am 12 now and looking at these comments makes me almost cry someone said we smell like bulls--- and and T-T why would yall say that? we are the same as yall T-T Cant you understand we are equal? Just diffrent personalities and we dont say yeehaw if you dont like our music so be it you dont have to say we are b--- and puddles a s----

People are the same where ever you go.

The only difference is type of people in each is different.

The city will have more criminals like gang bangers. I also tend to see the cities have more minorities. In most cases, Americans towns are predominantly Caucasian will a few exceptions that have higher Hispanic or African-American percentages. Crime can double in cities due to sociology aspects I don't want to explain right now.

Interests and things important to country people and city people will differ. I had city friends who didn't care about hiking, when I loved it. I also had country friends who didn't care about partying or night life cities had.

I've lived in the big city (Los Angeles) and grew up in a very small town in Arkansas of 1000 people. I agree with this statement completely.

I take your city people comment as an offense.

I spent my whole life in NYC and sure, there aren't always nice people but I have met plenty of great people who go above-and-beyond for you. I have also met rural people who aren't nice. You can't just make the generalization that people who live in cities are arrogant and people who live in the nice and quiet country side are kind. Not everyone is like that. Sure, city people are use to the convenience of everything at the tips of their fingers and country people may be more relaxed and take everything slow but doesn't mean theyre always nice. it all comes down to the way you were raised and the way you adapt to the environment you're in.

I go to upstate every once in a while and there are people who are just as rude (if not more) as the people I come across in the city.
