Even though America is going through extreme financial difficulties because of high oil prices, the oil rich nations are not giving financial aid to the world food programme. The usa is giving over 1.1 billion Dollars. This must be why large chunks of the world hates America. The USA gives more than its fair share to the rest of the world. Maybe it shouldn't bother?

Three months after U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon convened a task force on the global food crisis, the world’s richest oil-exporting nations remain among the biggest food-aid cheapskates.
Donor lists obtained from the World Food Program, the United Nations’ food aid arm, show that Iran, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Venezuela have contributed little or nothing to WFP's coffers, even after Ban's emergency appeal. At the same time, sky-high oil prices and imbalances exacerbated by swollen oil revenues have continued to worsen the food crisis.
While the oil exporters have kept their wallets closed, the United States, whose economy has been damaged by skyrocketing fuel prices, has nearly tripled its WFP donations to more than $1 billion from $363 million in early May.
During the same period, Canada has nearly doubled its contributions to $192 million from $103 million in the same period; the European Commission has hiked its total to $180 million from $32 million; Britain has leaped to $112 million from $36 million; and Italy has more than doubled its contributions to $99 million from $41.5 million.
In the meantime, the OPEC Fund has lifted its WFP contributions to $2.4 million, up slightly less than $2 million from its initial contributions last May but less than $1 million above the amount it had kicked in when FOX News’ original story was published.

The ME countries have never been big contributors to world aid so this should be no surprise.

True. They just sat on their robes while the West went in to help the Bosnians keep from being eliminated.

Come to think of it, what do they really do to help the Palestinians other than posture, shake their fists and curse Israel?

This didn't start with Bush. The Arab Nations have always loved to show off their wealth in the hands of their sultans and leave their people to starve to death. One of my friends was a Doctor in the Wellington Hospital when the Sultan of Brunai was a patient there. The Sultan took over a complete floor for himself, his wives and his bodyguards. My Friend went shopping with one of the wives and she bought seven range rovers, one for each day of the week. The people of Brunai couldn't feed themselves. This is nothing new and definately not because of Bush.

1.1 bil for a less than grateful world. How many americans missed a meal because they had no money for food? Perhaps we need to look inward and spend that money like all foreign aid mending our own fences.

Absolutely tinman. Too many American Dollars are going abroad to prop up other countries. Americans work hard for their money and shouldn't see their taxes pay for other world leaders lavish lifestyles while America gives aid to their citizens. Not buying goods from China, Taiwan etc. and buy home made products or products from allied nations would help too. If the Third world is starving then the oil rich third world countries should pay the tab.

With the tab comes the influence. If we are wanting to be a world power then we pay the tab one way or the other. To not do so leaves other nations open to control by forces we prefer were not in power. Many in the Middle East don't care if forces hostile to the United States come to power if it isn't in their back yard.
