America Wake Up! Speech by Captain Dan Quimette-Truth!

Summary of the eRumor:

A speech by U.S. Navy Captain Dan Quimette that says that American has been at war with terrorists for more than two decades and that September 11 was not the first terrorist attack directed at us.
He says that each past attack should have been taken as an alarm to wake up, but that instead the snooze button pushed on each occasion.

The Truth:

According to the U.S. Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida, Captain Dan Ouimette made this speech on a couple of occasions, one is 2002 and again in 2003.
At the time, he was the Executive Officer there.

According to the NASP, the speech was not meant to be a political statement but was circulated quite a bit during the Presidential elections.

Captain Oimette has retired from the Navy and has not given anyone permission to reprint his speech.

The NASP sent us a copy of the speech for reference.

We compared it with the eRumor version below and it is virtually identical.

This is news? Everyone knows that 9/11 wasn't the first attack. It wasn't even the first attack on the WTC...

I think this is a commonly accepted point. I don't think there are many people who believe it was the first.

I point to the Department of Justice Report 211203 (also called the Hamm Report, named for the author Mark Hamm). Lots of interesting reading in there providing background, planning, and execution of terrorist activities in America.

IIRC a number of British soldiers were woken up after a drunken revel in Fort William and Mary in Portsmouth Harbor in the Massachusetts Bay Colony Christmas Eve 1774.

Those aren't terrorists. They're "freedom fighters".

1993, under Slick Willie's watch. The CIA and the World Trade Center. He failed to secure our borders at that time, instead he lured more criminal illegal Mexican and economic terrorists, right on in, with the Youth Citizenship USA program.

Does the bombing of the US Marines barracks in Beirut, Lebanon in 1983 that killed 220 US Marines count as a "US terror attack"?

What about the first Barbary war (1801-1805) to stop Islamic pirates. Was that the first?
