One must remember; China operates totally contrary to what we could call "Western" thinking.

They don't recognize "eminent domain" - they say "move" - you move. You refuse to move, you go to jail.

This is how China (mainland) operates.

Greatday

This is contrary to what Wikipedia says. Eminent domain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I know that you are not intentionally being misleading when you posted that But what did you base that comment on?

In fact, you are very very mistaken. I had heard this story a year of so ago. Look at the photo.

No Land Grab: Property rights and eminent domain in China

It reminds me of a cartoon where a skyscraper is built around a little old lady's house. There was a movie in the 80s called "Batteries not included" that did the same thing. But this is real.

Please contrast the great lengths the builder went through to accommodate this property owner vs the legal and illegal methods of owner extraction in the US.

I base it on having a home in China (Hong Kong) and an office in HK - having traveled extensively throughout China - including being in Tiananmen Square in 1989.

And what do you want to bet someone from the Chinese Government had some "input" to Wiki????

My pop had his property taken back in 1947 in Guangzhou. There was no compensation. Are you saying there is no compensation now?

I traveled through the three gorges area back in 2000. New housing was provided for the displaced property owners.

You had a home and office in HK. Did you own it or were you renting? Were you in HK at the Brit handover? Was your property taken? Any compensation. I ask because I never asked my buddies there how that was resolved. The lease expired, did you get anything? When a lease expires, should you get anything?
