Default The American Dream in todays` American Society

Hi,
my name is mina and i´m from Germany.
In school i work on the topic "The American Dream", especially about the definition compared to the real life in the U.S.A. ( The American Reality ).

I`m very interested in it, but think that this topic is too complex. That`s why i need some other views about this American Ideology ( views from Americans ).
In fact i need ur help!!!
If you are also interested in this topic, or maybe you did even work on it, please tell me ur thoughts about:
THE AMERICAN DREAM IN TODAYS` AMERICAN SOCIETY

I´m looking forward to read about your point of view.
Thanks to all!!

Hello Mina, Welkom!

If you take a few hours and read the posts on the threads here in Political and other Controversies, and also look at the Immigration, General US forums, you'll get a bird's eye view of how different the American Dream and the American Reality look for folks that live here.

After you've had some good reading, perhaps you can ask some very specific questions. I for one would be willing to help you sort it out--but only from my own unique perspective.

By the way, it would be interesting to hear later how different it is these days in Germany. I haven't been for near on 30-years, but just spent a few days with some German friends at the Zuni and they seem to believe things are not well in the Republic.

Good luck!

Hello, that's a very broad topic. If I remember during my college days your first task is to limit the topic or be more specific - for example are we talking about economics, social inequalities, racism, employment, housing costs? I think you will be overwhelmed unless you get more precise and pick one sub-topic.

Anyways yes review these forums BUT take it with a realization that the first rule of Americans is everyone likes to complain. You will hear the bad but not the good, and there is alot of good in the US. If you read it you may just think our whole country is collapsing into anarchy and chaos. Also realize that this forum is somewhat biased to a liberal viewpoint. Read it with caution.
