Well the first article I posted a link to, went on to be quite critical and equated it to the eugenics movement during the early 20th century and to the Nazi's quest for the master race.
I saw this much as others here apparently see it and since it is a voluntary thing, then what's the big deal. I would even consider going one step further and offering those nations that receive US foreign aid a bonus to do the same thing abroad in nations with populations that are rising faster than they can feed them. While I suspect this kind of sentiment is probably unpopular with mainstream, I'm admit that I'm surprised that no one has argued to oppose this. Might be something worth looking into.
While I think that is a good idea, I can also see how it could be used as propaganda against our good intentions.
Never underestimate the manipulative intent of many, many, many others.
The ethics of this to me are sort of like a less extreme version of a music critic offering an untalented starving guitar player two weeks' worth of meals in exchange for his right hand. Kinda ****ed up. But I could understand its use in areas where massive numbers of people actually are dying from poverty, AIDS, famine, etc. ... not in America.

I've been in favor of this for years.
Think how many "crack" babies(and other addictions) might not be born if 'mom' went for the quick buck.
Include those that can't afford more kids yet think birth control measures are 'too expensive'.If they are that stupid I'm all for whatever it takes to keep them from breeding.
In fact,I'd raise it to $5000 to make it even more enticing.
By the way, most states, maybe all, medicaid programs pay for tubal ligation.
You are right on the mark, how many posters realize this? BTW I would not support it although the money is already squeezed out of me. We have many more issues at this time for this tired old thought pattern.
I'm 41 and had thought about having a hysterectomy. I'm tired of the old song and dance and now that I don't take birth control pills, the whole time of the month thing is almost unbearable. I would LOVE to get $1000 bucks for having it done.
