Idiot badguy: "Hey cop!!! I just killed the above poster's kin and I want to tell you all about it. I want to save the taxpayers A LOT of money by confessing. I did it and I'm guilty."

Cop: "Oh no, please don't tell us anything. Let me find a lawyer for you and then have them lie to us and profess your innocence! We don't want anyone to confess. We want to drag cases out for years just so you can play games with the system. The taxpayers don't mind. They have lots of money to spend. Please feel free to commit similar crimes while you wait for a trail. Lord knows nobody needs bail! We trust that you'll show up! After all, this was the opinions if those on the internet so it must be true!"

There's the result of nothing good coming of talking to the cops.

Innocent people do "confess" to crimes they didn't commit, this is why it's best, in my opinion to not even talk to the police.

Absolutely... and anyone who feels otherwise, I urge you to watch this video lecture by a law professor and a police detective.

"Don't Talk to the Police" by Professor James Duane

"Don't Talk to the Police" by Officer George Bruch
