I am not in favor of abortion except in the case of reported rape, reported incest and well-documented health issues that would risk the mother's life.
Supporting the rupturing of a woman's womb and sucking out the life of a child with a beating heart is murder in the 1st degree and should be punished as so (with the exception of the above). The fact that a man and a woman "forgot" to use birth control is NOT an excuse. Abortion is NOT birth-control after-the-fact.

lionking, I'd love a cup of colada.
We have many Cuban restaurants back East; none here. In fact, I'd say that although we have about one cafe per square mile, only about 1 of 10 serves a good cup of coffee.
And more important than that coffee (I'm brewing some now) I'm glad you are here too! (((((lionking)))).

Thanks for sharing your POV.
BTW, if you don't mind my asking, are you female or male?

I'm a 52 YO female and remember pre-Roe v Wade days. I am a staunch supporter of the right to choose. To that end, I have:
taken two women to have abortions
taken in three teens and their babies whose mothers threw them out of the house because they would not have an abortion
donated many baby goods to women unable to provide for the children they have had
foster parented teens whose parents tossed them out once they weren't cute little puppies any more
spent my entire adult life encouraging teens to postpone sex, get an education and follow their dreams
volunteered in group homes and provided respite care for house parents (in one case, I took the girls while the house parents went to a right to life rally!)
donate to Planned Parenthood
made the choice to have a second child at 39
I am raising the 9 year old daughter of my son and his former girlfriend, as they made the decision not to have an abortion when they were in their teens
The far right to life faction fights the availability of birth control and sex education. If I thought that abortion was murder, I'd be doing everything in my power to PREVENT pregnancy, not force women to return to backroom abortions at the hands of butchers or popping out unwanted chldren to grow up abused and neglected.

Great info.
I think the key or at least one of the dangling keys on the chain is the contradictions about sex, birth control, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, abortion--one often leading to the another or skirting the other.
You are perfectly right, imo, that if we spent more time educating our teens and young adults about self-control and birth-control and what it means to get pregnant we'd immediately reduce the number of unwanted births, and potential need or want for abortion.
As I said in my 1st post, I don't advocate abortion, I advocate choice.
And pre Roe-vs-Wade, we had illegal abortions, the number was quite high, and lots of women got sick or died themselves.
One of the other issues is how an entire industry grew around illegal abortions to benefit the butcher not the woman.

I'm also pro-choice for the same reasons others have posted above.
Also, this hasn't been brought up yet, but it DOES make a difference to me when I go to vote. I could never vote for an Anti-choice candidate.

My first son was nursed during FARAL meetings, had a prochoice sign in his hand while I pushed him in a stroller... yet had a child in high school. With my 13 year old....I've just removed his genitalia and had them preserved for future use
