zackly. I think Jolie is a fan of firearms and whatnot if I recall correctly. Rare in Hollywood and one of three or four reasons for people to like her, I reckon.

I would agree that there are more effective tools:

Pretty close to last on the list of weapons of choice.
Still , a blade in trained hands can be very effective. The old big black flashlights were better than begging for mercy , too.

For one thing , they never run out of ammo.

And the child is still quite young , there is time for more effective tools later.

What counts is the sense of responsibility and understanding the concept of ethical self defense , along with safety.

Why would he need a knife when he has hulking bodyguards around him (and the whole family) all the time.

It is a good skill to have, maybe so he doesn't have to be dependent on bodyguards the rest of his life? She should also get him into a martial arts class.

Why do people care so much about what Angelina Jolie is doing?

Do you have convincing and compelling evidence that the child is being raised in an environment that is so unwholesome or dangerous that he ought to be removed from his mother under a court order for his own protection? If you do not, then disregard this thread and move on to something else. You are invading the privacy of an innocent child.

You don't need a special knife to cut yourself....

if that's the logic (don't have it around because you had an issue WAY back) then how would she chop lettuce or a tomato or anything else? Or have her cook do it?

Knives are not necessarily the same for cutters like alcohol is to the alcoholic..

You do that today in NJ and all hell breaks loose. Sad.

You're not kidding. Remember the second graders who were suspended for playing cops & robbers with their fingers as guns?
