Jesus politics
I have just watched a documentary about the influence of religion in this years election...I would say that the US is no longer a secular country, but is now a theocracy. Neither candidate can be elected without the backing of evangelical America. There is no longer separation of of state and religion in your country. How do you feel about that?

I think if the religous right voted for McCain in the same numbers they voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004 that McCain would still not win.
Also, none of their agenda is getting passed.
Gay marriage is increasing, abortion rights are increasing, access to birth control is increasing, sexual education is increasing. Gvt supported school prayer is not increasing. They win a few State battles here and there but all in all the tide is turning against their agenda. They are losing court cases constantly over school prayer, abortion rights.

As long as we can slaughter the unfortunate who act upon their misfortunes, you'll have no qualms with me.

Agree with padcrasher.
The religious Right that President Bush unleashed onto America have played their last significant role in politics. The GOP is crashing into bits & pieces as people flee the party of extreme evangelical\ Dobson nonsense & ignorant hatefulness. Collin Powell labeled exactly as it is & why many former Republicans are voting for Obama

They did manage to make some gains on the Supreme Court which needs to be corrected. Hopefully the new 60 seat Dem controlled Senate and an eight year run for Obama can fix that.

Obama & the Democratic party won't need a filibuster-free senate to pass any Obama nomination to the Supreme court. But some of the youngest justices are Republican & aren't going anywhere. The court may bump heads with Obama\ Pelosi\ Reid but much progress will be made in order to erase the utter failures of Bush & the GOP.
The big losers are the evangelical terrorists again [they never get what they want from the GOP & will only get the big boot from Democrats

Exactly. The evangelical bloc that Reagan put together is crumbling apart. Good. Christians shouldn't have the knuckleheads who have represented that bloc for their voice anyway.

Kennedy and Scalia. I'm crossing my fingers. They were both born in 1936. Time for those two to be put out to pasture.

Personally, I think religion and other "moral" issues shouldn't be part of anything "government"!
Everyone has the right to believe as they see fit, but there's no reason for anyone else to know how or why you believe the way you do.
Running the country shouldn't have one thing to do with who or what you may believe in. "Faith" has no part of a business plan!

As a Democrat Jesus is a big part of my politics, especially with regard to social justice-you know, "Do unto others" and all that? Jesus never said anything about homosexuals or abortion. He was a community organizer too. Hmmm...
