Bush had started to agree with Obama's philosophy (which McCain made a big deal of) earlier since these raids have been officially sanctioned y W since July/08 (BBC). The Syrian raid bothers me much more as it opened up a brand new front 2 weeks before election. There have been massive protests in Syria - BBC World news on cable seems to have good coverage.
