Here is a BBC clip concerning a vehicle powered by air, a bit different than the Yahoo article but interesting nevertheless:

YouTube - Car that runs on air!

Still a bit doubtful myself though, I'd like to see an independent critical evaluation of the technology and a specific vehicle.

Air-power is a great alternative IF they vehicle can be kept light and agile.

Our vehicles have grown larger and heavier (as have most Americans) over the last few decades, and you would not want to be in one of these CAVs if hit by a Suburban. With that being said I would still love to have something like this - I am not as concerned with the safety aspect as much since I ride motorcycles.

Which is why it will not be sold here. By time the vehicle (if it truly exists) adds in all of the safety federal requirements, the weight of the vehicle will double and the car will not be operationable..

Well, you could always just push it with your Yukon...

Since the US allows all kinds of two-wheeler and scooter sales, there needs to be a new class of a 3-4 wheeled vehicle exempt from the strangles of all the federal safety requirements.

I would have bought a VW GX3 in a heartbeat at the estimated price of $17K, but alas it could not meet US safety requirements.
(Still safer than my two wheelers).

Look at the numbers (price, MPG, capacity) for the SmartCar vs. cars like the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, etc. and the SmartCar doesn't really seem so smart.

As far as compressed air, there's still nothing that approaches the energy density of gasoline/diesel. Maybe if there was a cheap/free source of compressed air as a by-product of some other process it would be practical but otherwise? And that still doesn't remove the need for a distribution infrastructure.

It's really nothing new, not much else than a 'cold steam' engine.

If I were you I'd wait until I heard one run....Ever hear an air compressor?....Pretty much the same sound.

The technology is not new. Air powered locomotives were used in the 20s in mines.

Yep, not very encouraging... so what are the chances we will have a sun powered car on the market in the next 10 years? Is it a possibility?
