It's the other way around. In the state of Florida, a new amendment was added to the state constitution, so that marriage could only be between a man an woman. By adding this amendment gays cannot marry. Interesting it wasn't called a gay marriage ban, it was called the family protection amendment.

May YOU be touched by His Noodly Appendages!
At least the Church of the FSM promotes love and equality, unlike the majority of religions around.....

If you want to do this, you do realize all of these things will go away as well? Just because a few people give religion a bad name, don't write it off entirely!

Freedom of religion is why our founding fathers first left England, and now you want to get rid of it? Amazing...

Religion is not the problem, a lack of education is the problem. I say this as a Christian, many Christians do not know what the Bible says. They don't read it, don't study it, and go just based on emotion. Christianity when lived as stated in the Bible is a much better thing that a lot of the institutionalized churches today.
Agreed. I agreed so much I refuse to participate in organized religion to keep politics out from between me and my maker. Thing is these folks don't want to learn anything, and you cannot teach the unwilling. I guess the pews have to completely empty out for the higher ups to realize that god was not allowed in gods house. I cite the below example....

The greatest threat to christendom is socialism? Dictators? Defend personal freedoms and allow opposing groups? Ohhh dear, how wrong you are. The greatest threat is much closer to home. It's the hatred sponsored by the church within the church, by the shepherds and the lambs deciding all other creatures of gods making are lesser than themselves. There are a handful of true christians I've been graced to know in my life. The true ones would never disgrace the bible using it as a brick to harm another. They've actually read it often, but more importantly, used it to guide their personal lives daily. Not finger wag or legislate their opinion that others are forced to follow by writ. They know the enemy is within, not outside themselves.

The moment you legislate the bible into our government is the moment you have named a dictator. Religious right are killing this country. They can't tolerate what god made, nor opposing groups, nor can they manage to be responsible for themselves to learn about jesus enough to follow those footsteps. The bible is not a book of hate until hateful people use it that way. That's different from islamic extremists? I love my god but I'm sickened by fake christians abusing people with personal crusades under the aegis of gods will.

This thread was a joke, but I'm laughing through my tears. I'm afraid they're right. Americans, evidenced by their behavior, cannot be trusted with a bible.

So because of that, you think you have more integrity or validity or any other key word???? I think, first of all, that you think a "belief" is really important, that you're pretty much FOS, but I also KNOW that if you learned your BS belief from a website, you are REALLY FOS!

I DO however feel that religion needs to stay as far as possible from politics as possible. I think that religion has far too much influence on the function of our lives.

Never ask a question you don't know the answer too.
Here are some LIKE WHATS

The Mayflower Compact (authored by William Bradford) 1620:William Bradford) 1620 | Signing of the Mayflower painting | Picture of Compact
“Having undertaken, for the glory of God, and advancement of the Christian faith, and honor of our King and Country, a voyage to plant the first colony in the northern parts of Virginia, do by these presents solemnly and mutually, in the presence of God, and one of another, covenant and combine our selves together…”

John Adams and John Hancock:
We Recognize No Sovereign but God, and no King but Jesus! [April 18, 1775]

John Adams:
“ The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”

John Adams:
“ The general principles upon which the Fathers achieved independence were the general principals of Christianity… I will avow that I believed and now believe that those general principles of Christianity are as eternal and immutable as the existence and attributes of God.”“[July 4th] ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty.”
–John Adams in a letter written to Abigail on the day the Declaration was approved by Congress.

"I have examined all religions, as well as my narrow sphere, my straightened means, and my busy life, would allow; and the result is that the Bible is the best Book in the world. It contains more philosophy than all the libraries I have seen." December 25, 1813 letter to Thomas Jefferson

John Quincy Adams:
• “Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day [the Fourth of July]?" “Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity"?
--1837, at the age of 69, when he delivered a Fourth of July speech at Newburyport, Massachusetts.

“The Law given from Sinai [The Ten Commandments] was a civil and municipal as well as a moral and religious code.”

Benjamin Franklin: | Portrait of Ben Franklin
“ God governs in the affairs of man. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured in the Sacred Writings that except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it. I firmly believe this. I also believe that, without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builders of Babel” –Constitutional Convention of 1787 | original manuscript of this speech

Patrick Henry:
"Orator of the Revolution."
• This is all the inheritance I can give my dear family. The religion of Christ can give them one which will make them rich indeed.”
—The Last Will and Testament of Patrick Henry

“It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.” [May 1765 Speech to the House of Burgesses]

“The Bible is worth all other books which have ever been printed.”

At the Constitutional Convention of 1787, James Madison proposed the plan to divide the central government into three branches. He discovered this model of government from the Perfect Governor, as he read Isaiah 33:22;
“For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver,
the LORD is our king; He will save us.” "
