I wondered about this too and had no idea what the posters were talking about, so I did a search and this is the article I most liked in explaining it.
Critical thinkers vs. Kool-Aid drinkers?
Caution: It will take a little time to load, or it did for me. I almost clicked off, before the article came up.

In the context of politics it's an excuse to whine when the whiner has nothing of substance to whine about.

I think the actual origin traces back to this:

Jonestown - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But in that case it was called fruit-punch, not kool-aid

I used to be an engineer for Apple, and the phrase was frequently used to describe our zeal for the company and its products.

Yep, "drinking the Kool-Aid" goes back to Jonestown, where the followers of Jim Jones were so fanatically loyal that when he told them to, they drank juice laced with poison and died. Today when someone is said to be drinking the Kool-Aid it means that they don't question what they're being told to do, and just do it no matter whether or not it's a good or bad thing.

Movie Lover you are from the UK right? Kool aid is a cheap nasty powder drink that comes in various flavors and popular in the US. Thankfully that crap will never be allowed into any EU country on account of the ingredients.

After the Jones town mass suicide and murders .It has since become a popular cliché

Blasphemy! The grape is the best!

I admit, when I want something very unhealthy, I will make a glass of it from my junk food stash.
