If you base a POTUS greatness on his election results, that would mean that every POTUS elected into office was great. The reasoning does not make sense...sorry.

Bush served two terms and look what it got us, but then again was he actually voted in? Debatable.

Mondale had nothing going for himself, he was part of one of the most incompetent administrations the country has ever experienced, Carter was so unpopular that Democrats didn't even want Mondale to mention him in the acceptance speech at the convention. Reagan was the incumbent President in 1984, while things weren't booming economically they weren't as terrible as they had been just a few years earlier. Mondale also had so little personality while Reagan knew how to play to the cameras.

Ronald Reagan, the greatest President of the 20th Century

Reagan was a great President in the same way John Wayne was a great war hero, they both played roles.

His greatness is extremely debatable at best.

One thing NOT debatable is his involvement in arming an enemy, the very definition of treason. THAT hardly makes him anything like a great President.

The only positive thing about RR was his communication skills, which have become more appreciated since the speech bumbling of the current President. Reagan made racism and homophobia very fashionable in this country. Everywhere you looked, Reagan was constantly reminding white ppl that they were superior to all others through his symbolism and actions. He did not utter the word "AIDS" until well after Rock Hudson contracted it in 1985. He was one of the most divisive presidents of my lifetime.

I just outlined what the president's responsibilities are. I didn't defend a president one way or the other. reagan was just like every other president. did some good, did some bad. that's all we can expect out of the modern politician. we will not see a good president in our lifetime. it's impossible nowadays. we haven't had anyone good since coolidge IMO.

And conveniently failing to remember his complicity qualifies as neither a defense nor an excuse.
