What is it to you? These people want the same chance at permanance and happiness that is your option. They don't want to deny you yours, they don't want to take anything away from you, they want what you want - a chance to be a little less alone in the world.
I keep hearing this term, redefine marriage. If this country hadn't redefined marriage, black people still couldn't marry white people. 16 states had laws on the books that made that illegal as late as 1967. The parents of the president elect could not have married in nearly a third of the states of the country their son grew up to lead. Marriages were not legally recognized if the people were slaves.
The world is barren enough. It is stacked against love and against hope and against those few and precious emotions. With so much hate in the world with so much meaningless division and people pitted against eachother for no good reason, this is what your religion tells you to do, this is what your conscience tells you to do? You want to sanctify marriage, you want to honor your god and the universal love he represents then spread happiness. Share it with all those who seek it.

I admire Olberman for his courage & eloquence. While everyone else was towing the Fux News party line, he was one of the first in mainstream media to stand up to the right wing neo cons ruining our country. Now the rest of the world has caught up to him. Hopefully it won't be long before they catch up on gay rights too.

I do think Olbermann is a tool. However this statement, particularily the bolded part, I wholeheartedly agree with.
Olbermann may be a bit arrogant, but he's at least willing to speak the truth and stand up for what's right. Compare him to Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly or Lou Dobbs who spend their time talking only about who they hate and how great conservatives are. Nowhere is the current stone-age mentality of Americans more visible than in the gay right movement. Seeing guys kiss is just as gross to me as it is to your typical homophobe, but I am evolved enough to realize that it's not my place to judge. If marriage is so sacred, how come half end in divorce and many others spend decades with cheating and abuse?
I have agreed with a few of his political rants against Bush. This one that compares gay marriage/sexual orientation to the plight of black Americans not being considered human beings deserving of equal rights is so far off base it's absurd. Civil rights being denied because of the color of one's skin has absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH SEXUAL PREFERENCE and a CHOSEN LIFESTYLE.
Homosexuals and their supporters really need to find a more parallel or at least convincing cause to exploit.

do you know that the right to marry interracially was denied of blacks and browns? and whites of course. do you know what the arguments against miscegenation were? its against gods will. god put blacks in africa and whites in europe for a reason. so they would not mix. GOD GOD GOD! based on that people were denied the right to marry.
so here we have a man who wants to marry whom makes him happy. but what are people saying? its against god will. how can that not be any more of a valid comparison? its against gods will and therefore unacceptable.
back then black people had to prove they were equal and worthy of the same rights and protections. nowadays gays have to do the same thing. prove they are uqual and worthy of the same rights and protections as the rest of society.
this is about equal rights. and rights exist in many manifestations. civil rights are not just for a select few. they are for everyone. women, children, blacks, browns, gays, differently abled folks, everyone.
therefore if a segment of the population is being denied rights, a civil right, then what do you think they will do? find previous parallels that are similar to this current struggle. learn from those movements.
this is about marriage equality. just like the Loving case was. if you dont see that...
you sure you still want to play in politics?
