I do respect you guys, and your right to your opinion, but it doesn't mean that I have to agree with it, or advocate it. I believe that marriage was ordained by God, and that a change from the definition of it in Genesis is wrong, and will cheapen the institution of marriage. I don't believe this country will be better off for it.

Who knows, though? You don't hear much about casino gambling lately. We all know how big of an issue that was a few years ago.

By the way.......any idea why we don't see these stories of anti-Christian hate demonstrations on the national news level? Just curious what you guys think.

I don't think we really see alot of stories about individual anti-gay hate either.

Probably because extreme examples on both sides don't really happen that often.

I would say we see less of the anti-Christian because it is the dominant culture and people assume Christians are usually doing the oppressing.

Just my thought.

That is not individual circumstances though.

That is the overall issue of gay rights.

I don't believe anyone said "all gay people" just a few which are doing more damage than good...

Thank you...no--I don't mean all gay people are attacking people. Likewise, not all Christians are hate mongers. Nor is disagreeing to be considered hate.

People just evolve. Well most, anyway.

We do everyday. It comes from the middle-east and until the local gays can upstage them, you can expect the same.

You know, this whole topic should remind people of the phrase "pick your battles". Sometimes, whether you know you are right or wrong, especially when it doesn't directly affect you in any way, you should step back and address issues that pertain to you.

What the **** does that even mean? Cheapen the institution? I hear it slung around constantly but in the face of all the things heterosexual couples have done to "cheapen" marriage, why aren't people out in droves rallying against things that ruin marriages between hetero couples?

Because honestly you really don't give a **** and you don't like gay people. I really can't think of any other reason. The christians aren't out holding rallies about spouse abuse, financial responsibility, raising children or anything you claim to hold so dear regarding marriage.

If it was really that important about making marriages sound then that self righteous Sarah Palin wouldn't have rushed her teenage daughter and her boyfriend, who obviously can't make good decisions, into getting married. Think about it. It's ok for 2 teenagers who may have no long term commitment to each other to start out married with no jobs, no place to live, and a child to take care of.

That's ok, but a gay couple who have been together romantically, financially, and domestically for years can't get marriage because it violates some sort of sanctity not upheld by everyone?

If you're going to put stipulations on marriage then you will need ones based on age, race, handicap, religion.

Age-
Why would you let a man marry a woman 20 years younger than him? He will die before her and leave her a widow. How unsanctimonious to enter a lifelong commitment till death do you part when one of you will obviously leave the arrangement well before the other. Time to pass some laws requiring couples be the same age.

Race-
Hey now, if you have a black dad and a white mom (like I do) people are obviously going to be confused about your race and talk about you. It will no doubt me some people uncomfortable to see mixed-race couples out in public, so for the sake of their children and the general public we can't allow this.

Handicap-
If one spouse is wheelchair bound how is that fair for the other spouse to be that much more responsible for their care. With the obvious inequality in the relationship we need to pass laws banning the handicapped from getting married.

****

There aren't any other stipulations on marriage so why do it for gay couples? It IS outright and blatant discrimination!

Actually, according to them it was her first time. He must have been one hell of a good shot!

On a serious note, who the hell can cheapen the church more than the church itself? Mega churches w/evangelists, kiddy sex scandal, embezzlement, pass the hat b.s....etc. What has the church done to improve living conditions in the poor south?

Take a gander through the bible belt and look for yourself. Everywhere you look are rundown, dilapidated homes, uneducated citizens, then you have these giant mega churches on every block.

You know, when I get married I don't need some priests up at the alter drinking booze and eating Ritz crackers to make my marriage anymore legit. (ok, that was a little harsh and ignorant of me)

But, it's not over.

Like any societal change it comes in forward, stagnation and backward.

Sooner or later (like in the next 5 years) it will be legalized nationally. There is too much momentum at this point.
Todd, don't you agree though, it would be better to gather as much support, both monitarily (spelling) and in the number of people behind you, bring it back in 2 years and see what happens, rather than protesting, marching and generally raising hell?

Nita
