If the troops would have gone into Afghanistan instead of Iraq in the first place, Al Queda and the Taliban would have been, more or less defeated long before now. Not to mention Osama Bin Laden (if he is actually still alive.)

Even with our relative low troop levels in Afghanistan we have chased many Al Queda to the Pakistan border.The major problem is Pakistan who has only recently started to help militarily because the US has decided not to care what country terrorists hide in; we are going to go get them. Even if we had 200,000 troops in Afghanistan, without our willingness to go after Al Queda no matter where they are and no matter what country they are in who harbours them, they will not be defeated. Obama will not be able to do anymore than Bush unless he continues to destroy the enemy anywhere in the world. Obama may find himself in the same situation as Bush is in Iraq.

But the general consensus among the uninformed was that he was going to bring our troops home, it's still all over the web. And yes I know quite clearly the differences between the two locations and what he originally said, and I'm pretty sure during campaigning that he never said he would nearly double the force in afghanistan.
Disclaimer: I am not an Obama hater, but I do question how much his voters actually knew about him and his policies.

Actually, the Taliban are making a comeback in Afghanistan - and have been for quite some time - for the simple reason that we do not have enough troops there to secure the country because we've been preoccupied with Iraq. Obama will change that.
In all fairness to the principle, the invasion of Afghanistan might have had at least a modicum of righteous justifucation, and a reduction in the risk of terrorism might actually be attained with some influence in that country. The change would be that Bush virtualy abandoned Afghanistan and left it to brigands, while a reasonably well administered and prosperous Iraq was turned into a quagmire of chaos instead. The change is to go back to what was first perceived as a response to a threat.
Maybe by increasing the troops he hopes to find Binladin a little faster and get the home a bit sooner. Its going to take time for him to straiten this big mess up, the Bush's started.

Clearly you are uninformed. Obama has said ALL ALONG that he intends to draw down In Iraq and draw up forces in Afghanistan. Here's a link from July of 2007:
Pulling out of Iraq and increasing forces in Afghanistan has been one of the centerpieces of Obama's campaign from the very beginning of his campaign and he has said MANY TIMES that he considers Iraq to have a been a wasteful diversion from the real enemy.
