I say "Merry Christmas" only when I know the person actually celebrates that occasion. Otherwise, "happy holidays."

Oh for crying out loud... do we have this debate EVERY year??? I thought I'd avoid it by avoiding the religion forum, but apparently it is following me - LOL. For the record, I usually say "Happy Holidays" because many holidays occur this time of year. And considering I don't celebrate Christmas, and neither do any of my family/relatives, it would be a little odd to wish them Merry Christmas. Anyway, this is such an over-exhausted debate, so hopefully I won't get sucked into it beyond answering this question.

It's not always a matter of "PC" - like I just said above, wouldn't it be strange to wish a Jewish person Merry Christmas? I'll wish you a "Chag Sameach" next September, and see how that makes your head spin. LMAO.

I don't know why we cant just say BOTH!!! For as long as I can remember, I have heard either Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, etc. Its only been in the last few years that some yahoos have made a big deal out of it? I mean in all honesty, who gives a rats a$$? Its the holiday "SEASON", for alot of different groups. Christians have Christmas, Jews have Hanakah <sp?>, theres also Kwanzaa and a few others I'm sure. Regardless of your "holiday of choice", this time of year is meant to be joyous for EVERYONE IN EVERY GROUP. If I were to greet someone "Merry Christmas", and they were to come back "I dont celebrate Christmas", I would simply say, "Well whatever holiday you observe, have a joyous one".

Amen. Let everyone say what they choose, and shut up about it already... this argument/whining is older than my 91 year-old grandmother.
Happy Merry Chrismukwanzakahdan-giving to all!

I say Christmas because that is what it is. Planatarily speaking, I'll be one of some 2 billion people celebrating on December 24 and 25 for that matter.
