P.S. I don't know if 90% of Americans actually celebrate Christmas, but if they do, I imagine a good percentage are not doing it for religious reasons... considering that Christians/Catholics don't make up 90% of our population. So are you going to cry about the Atheists who celebrate it too, if they don't celebrate how you do?

Believe me, I wish we did have more around here, and not just for holiday reasons. Sometimes I'm tempted to move to Israel, Florida or NYC just for that reason... but we have better weather than the latter two, and fewer bombs being dropped than the former. Anyway, I do take Yom Kippur & Rosh Hashana off, just with my own personal vacation leave. I'd happily trade Christmas in exchange (rather than having to use my time), but unfortunately that's not even an option - so you can't blame me for being forced to take the day off!

Well, I don't think most Christian Americans would go to Israel and expect that they'd get all the Christian holidays off. Until other religious traditions gain prominence (unlikely considering the Catholic Hispanic growth), it's a part of the fabric of America for good. Do like they do around here on Christmas and order CHinese take out and go to a movie!

I live in New York, which has a larger Jewish population than any city in the world except for Tel Aviv, and I'm not given the day off. I have to take it. For that matter, I have to take two days, since Jewish holidays begin at sundown the night before.
"Get some more Jews in your town." Hmm...what is it I don't like about that tone?
Oh, I'm sorry...I'm getting off topic here. Happy holidays!

Settle down, sheesh. I was trying to make the point that I live in an area with a huge Jewish population and SOMEHOW they were able to get Yom Kippur made into a holiday for some governmental capacities. Most likely because of their numbers and political participation to make it happen. Yom Kippur is also a holiday for schools around here.

By celebrating "Christmas", you are actually celebrating a Pagan Holiday.

And I think that's wonderful. The Yuletide serves as a marker for the birth of Jesus as well as a paean to the winter solstice.
Be of good cheer, everyone.

The Twilight Zone "The Night of the Meek"
Closing narration by Rod Serling
"There's a wonderous magic to Christmas and there's a special power reserved for little people. In short, there's nothing mightier than the meek. And a Merry Christmas to each and all."
I say well said Roddy boy!:-)

Rod Serling is Jewish. Back then however, they weren't as hostile towards Christmas. Today in Hollywood, it's open season on Christianity.

Oh give us a break... no Jew I know of gives one rat's a$$ about Christmas, and just wish you'd all shut up about it already. We don't run around yelling and screaming about High Holy Days all autumn long, so why is December (and now November!) suddenly Christmas this and Christmas that 24/7? It just gets annoying, that's all. Last year my Atheist roommate and I said only Christmas things to each other for hours at a time... Hey Shay, Christmas Christmas Christmas? Yeah, Christmas and baby Jesus and reindeer on a sleigh. Not to be rude, but because it was all we could think of and hear about the entire month - so might as well just change our vocabulary, LOL.
Anyway, I'm not buying into the victim whining from you all, and these discussions (which happen every year as of late) are only MAKING us sour on the holiday. Funny thing is, I used to love observing the joy of Christmas, even as an outsider. The traditional music is beautiful, the decorations are pretty - especially those icicle lights - and people in general seem to have a peacefulness & kindness about them. Plus you can't beat the sales and late shopping hours, LOL. So have a great holiday season, and just keep respect and common courtesy towards your fellow humans in mind... no matter what they celebrate or don't celebrate. That is my Christmas wish for this year!
