It's good to see that the poll results so far show that the majority of folks believe Christ is still a part of Christmas.
I never say Happy Holidays.
I never write Happy Xmas.
I don't X out Christ.
I say Merry Christmas.
If anyone doesn't like that, I don't care.
I say it to them anyway whether or not I think it might be offensive to some people and I realize not all who say Happy Holidays are offended by me saying Merry Christmas.
If they do get offended, so be it.
I ain't changing.

I think you're missing the point... so I'll try explaining one more time, LOL. I voted in the poll that I say "Happy Holidays," and it has nothing to do with my beliefs about Christmas. Obviously Christmas is about Christ, hence the C-H-R-I-S-T part of the word. That's exactly why I'd rather say Happy Holidays, because at least where I live, there are tons of people who don't celebrate Christmas - including most of my Jewish family, my Indian and Muslim co-workers, and many of my Buddhist/Chinese neighbors. If you live in a little town that only has Christian people, I guess it's a pretty safe bet to say Merry Christmas... but I didn't grow up that way, and would be forcing something fake if I tried. To each his/her own!

Actually, saying "Happy Holidays" covers:
Thanksgiving
Advent
Christmas
Chanukah
Kwanzaa
Three Kings Day
New Years
Saturnalia
I'm probably missing one or two... so feel free to add to the list.
So, since some people celebrate some or all of the holidays, saying "Happy Holidays" covers everybody who celebrates any or all of the above.

The use of X for Xmas is from the church, and is centuries old.
Origin of "X"mas
You’ve heard the classic story about the little boy who noticed the huge red-and-green sign spray-painted on a department story: "Happy Xmas." And he wondered aloud about the X. Why was it X-mas? And finally, in a forlorn voice, he asked his dad: "Did they cross Christ out of Christmas, Daddy?" And the father had never thought of it that way before, but finally nodded. "Yes, Son, I guess they did." And it makes you think.
Well it certainly does make one think. It makes one think how uninformed or misinformed, and unnecessarily militant with that misinformation, so many Christians are concerning their own Faith.

I can't believe this argument comes out every single year. How very boring.
Send happy wishes using whatever words you want.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

I say both and I think very few people actually truly get offended if you say either, no matter what their religion. I also think if you say Merry Christmas just to p**s people off then you aren't much in the Christmas spririt anyway. Some people get offended, some people don't. Thus is life and if you go out of your way to spite, then you are no better than they are. There were people in my neighborhood, probably the very same Christians that get all pissed off that there are people that get offended when they say Merry Christmas, that get all pissed off and offended themselves when they got "boo'ed" over Halloween. This is also the same group of people that gets all offended when homosexuals want same sex marriage. Respect goes both ways - if you want people to respect and not butt in to your lifestyle, your religion then you have to respect and not butt in to theirs. Doesn't mean you have to like it but it does mean you shouldn't interfere.

Yup your right.. there were others out there.. but I only say Happy Holidays on cards or when I feel it is appropriate. face to face I will say Merry Christmas or Happy Thanksgiving or Happy New Year... why,.. I guess it is because I grew up that way and it is just my preference.
There is also Winter's Solstice. Few people realize that the origins of a form of Christmas was Pagan & celebrated in Europe long before anyone there had heard of Jesus Christ.

Happy Holidays is not pushed by Evil Pagan Lefties. It is pushed by Corporate America who don't want to discriminate against any of their consumer base during the Holiday Retail Season.

Lest we forget: if there were no Evil Pagans, there would be no Christmas trees, holly, elves, wassail punch, or meaningless NBA games between competing mobs of hyperthyroid felons.
