Uhhh, ok. So you're saying that a bunch of Jews got together and to somehow "mess up" Christmas they decided to elevate Hanukkah?
You realise how insane that sounds right?

Who doesn't? Every Jew I know LOVES something about Christmas.
Maybe Hanukah was pushed up because Jews wanted to assimilate more. Did you think of that?

To me, the "Holiday Season" starts on Thanksgiving and ends on New Years Day.
It includes Hanukkah, Kwanza, Boxing Day (for our friends up north) and of course ... CHRISTMAS!
On Dec 1, I wouldn't expect a cashier to wish me "Merry Chrsitmas" anymore than I would expect a friend to wish me "Happy Birthday" 3 weeks before my birthday. It's the Holiday Season, a simple "Happy Holidays" is fine. If I'm buying a Christmas tree (NOT a "holiday tree") fine, but if I'm buying beer in a Kwik-E-Mart, then no.
BUT, if I'm buying egg nog (or beer for that matter) on Christmas Eve, I would fully expect a cashier to wish me "Merry Christmas." Any reasonable person wouldn't get offended by that b/c it's actually Christmas then!
Dec 1-15 is NOT Christmas!

Christmas is supposed to be a special holiday to Christians. Diluting it by making it 5 weeks long seems silly. The "Holiday Season" is that long, with the big giant one, CHRISTMAS, in the middle. It's a beautiful, wonderful holiday that I've always enjoyed, even though I'm not Christian. Don't worry so much about a non-existant "War on Christmas" and enjoy your holiday.

I don't care. Either is fine, I'm not a fan of PC but there's more holidays than just Christmas.

Has anyone else just said, "screw it"

I don't go around saying "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" or "Happy Hanukah" or whatever to anyone. I just stick with my year-round greetings, such as, "good afternoon," "good day," "have a nice weekend," etc. I'm sick of saying "Merry Christmas" to a Jewish person who gets huffy about it, or saying "Happy Holidays" to a fundamentalist Christian who blows up, saying, "It's CHRIST-mas! My holiday is the only one that matterzzz!!!1121"

So everyone on city-data, I wish you a pleasant evening.

We pay kosher tax on food? That's news to me, and I'm a Jew! I'm sure we pay a lot of taxes on things we don't agree with (or don't even know about, apparently) but that is not really the point. The point is that Christmas is the ONLY religious holiday that is federally recognized, which implies the government is favoring Christianity. Hey, I get a paid day off, so it's cool with me... but don't try to convince us that Christians aren't favored here, which is the main reason I feel no sympathy for this issue. Oh well, so you aren't getting the 5-star treatment you're used to - welcome to my world, LOL.

Btw, the only argument people seem to have is that "Christians are the majority," which is such a passive-aggressive attitude... and since when does the majority rule? I thought we lived in a diverse - not to mention secular - democracy?? If Jews were the majority tomorrow, I guarantee you wouldn't like me saying "Deal with it, we're in charge now." If this country was established as a Christian state you might have a point, but that is simply not the case.

But I don't insist on pushing Chanukah in your face for 2 months, so can you please stop pushing yours in my face?
Go light a candle and get over it!

LOL... and a pleasant afternoon/evening to you too. By the time December 26th rolls around, I will be relieved as I always am. Ahhhhh, the joys of the holiday season - mistletoe, menorahs, eggnog, and 35 pages of debate on C-D. All part of my holiday traditions, hehe.

My main problem is that we give goverment recognition to Christian holidays and no other holidays. If I get off for Christmas, I want to get off (with pay, like my wife does) for any other "major religious holiday". Why give Christianity preference? That sounds like a sure violaiton of the establishment clause to me.
Because we arrived first and built the nation so get over it or get the hell out.

Furthermore, most of us that have stood for something, fought for something are getting pretty tired of the leftist monkeys swinging through our trees and crapping all over the constitution and our way of life. Zero tolerance and it is gonna get worse pal!

Right. Absolutely

Clearly, we're crapping all over the Constitution, by wanting folks to respect the clause concerning the promotion of religion by the government.

Oh, wait.

You meant some other aspect of the Constitution, because you don't like that one.

And by "Our way of life," you mean "trampling all over the rights of others," hence your threat. I get it.

The new amendment to the Constitution, as written by Schtyk:
"Might makes right."
