Any case on Christmas?

Come on - why don't you step up to the plate and sue the Government? I'm sure you can find legal representation at no charge - you seem to suggest that you have a strong case -

ACSBlog: The Blog of the American Constitution Society: Utah Lawmaker Wants Retailers To Recognize Christmas, Not Holiday Season

A Utah state senator with a track record of pushing policy that flaunts First Amendment principles is working on a resolution that would urge retailers in the state to wish their customers a “Merry Christmas,” during the holiday season. Sen. Chris Buttars (R-West Jordan), like Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, is convinced there is a “war on Christmas” in the nation and believes lawmakers need to engage in the battle. “It would encourage the use of ‘Merry Christmas,’” Buttars told
The Salt Lake Tribune about his forthcoming resolution. “I’m sick of the Christmas wars – we’re a Christian nation and ought to use the word.”

I have better windmills to tilt at and more important injustices to fight than that one, though I appreciate your confidence in me.

Yes, those cases were ultimately reversed.

That was my point, thank you. That things are seen one way and not another, for a time, is hardly shocking.

As for the existence of any court cases concerning Christmas as a governmental holiday, I'll look to see if I trip across one. I suspect that the petitioner would be informed s/he didn't have standing!

County of Allegheny v. ACLU - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Interesting read on the Establishment Clause and religion/government.

"Today, in the United States District Court in San Francisco, California, the ACLU has filed suit against the United States over the holidays that are designated as federal holidays where the federal government is closed. They argue that Christmas is the only religious holiday on the list and that it does not recognize religious holidays of other religions and it leaves out atheists."

Looks like a weak case to me, the way it is discussed in the article. I doubt it will go anywhere.

Oh, wait.

You meant some other aspect of the Constitution, because you don't like that one.

And by "Our way of life," you mean "trampling all over the rights of others," hence your threat. I get it.

The new amendment to the Constitution, as written by Schtyk:
"Might makes right."
With some slight corrections, that pretty much is concise and factual and right...yes.

I think it's related because I believe that Christmas as a federal holiday is in violation as well. There are some pretty clear links between the two, if you read the whole article.

Yes.

Ganulin v. United States (1999) - affirmed by SCOTUS in 2000.

Lynch v. Donnelly (1984)

These are the two most recent cases.

The former claims there are "legitimate secular purposes" for the holiday.

p.s. I recommend for reading the District Court decision by Susan Dlott - it is wonderfully joyful writing, if not... in the direction I would have wanted.

You non Christmas folks should all go out and buy a big steel pole and celebrate festivus, figure out the true meaning of the pole. Get over it. We don't care what you think. It is cultural to this country it is heritage to this country, it is founded on the christian religion. We are the vast majority, we don't care if you like it and we don't care if you leave. Canada needs a few good men. Venezuela loves your types. go...go....go, cheers as they are loading the bus. Goodbye, have agood life, don't get stuck on the pole.

My, my - how you do wax philosophical!

Look, you don't get to exile people because they hold different beliefs than you.

That's about as un-American as it gets. Maybe you ought to look at why the Colonists did what they did, and then rethink your stance.

I celebrate Christmas yet I don't believe it should be a federal holiday.

Gonna ship me off to some remote place too?

Hey, there's an idea!

You should go to Canada - a country in which the state religion IS Christian - unlike this one which, blather or not, was not founded on the Christian religion, according to the founding fathers.
