Attending a weekly religious service, regardless of your faith, may lower your risk of death by 20 percent compared with people who don't attend services, researchers are reporting. We see some health benefits here,"
Why would there be a comment about the initial thread and link re: Jewish college report as opposed to any religious report(s)....I have heard of similar research done and findings the same or very similar; it is about having faith, regardless of the religion, in having trust and the solidarity of those who represent the same denomination as you and finding a fellowship amongst everyone. There are groups that get together that are eucumenical and it they meet out of 'fellowship' share meals, pot luck dinners actually and talk about their commonalities first, and then learn about what are their differences.
We all know that living along, with no contact with others can lead to depression, overall sadness and not caring for ourselves as we should, such as eating ...how often do we hear about our 'grandparents' or our elderly parents who hardly touch a thing for dinner but when they have company, they eat so much better...we all need the human touch and contact...
It is not about a specific religion and I think that inference was not necessary...actually....to digress just a bit but to hopefully make people think, just a little.... believe it was Pope John 23rd, but I could be incorrect with the specific Pope...probably about 20 years ago, give or take...said, hey everyone...we have to correct things .... Christians need to stop this blaming on the Jews for Jesus' death...similar reasons as above...Romans, and given that everyone, if not Pagan, was Jewish, rather Hebrew....so if the Pope made that edict, AND the Pope was very clear and specific when he stated that.... and along with the belief that....and ithis was supposed to be....was 'supposed' to have happened this way, i.e., death for resurrection...and for those who profess to read and know their Bible, both Old and New Testments....then those Bible readers should clearly remember that it was the Prophet Elijah who went to 'the people' to tell them about the "Coming of the Messiah" .....and thus it was ordained to be....and thus, the blame should have stopped a long time ago..
Clearly, at least to me, it is certainly easier to choose to blame, scapegoat and perpetuate ill-feelings and anti-semitism rather than practice the words of either the Old and New Testament...that being 'love they neighbor'...I don't get it, will never get it...why people continue to choose to be hurtful. What a waste of time and effort and it accomplishes what exactly? Unless of course, it makes the person who is being cruel and thoughtless, feel better about themselves and that, I believe, is even sadder.
So, to come back from that tangent, let's try not to minimize the point of this interesting thread and certainly let's not attack a specific group when the point of the thread was to consider the positive effects religion has on us.....
I find that to be supect. Faith and religious rituals won't necessarily help someone extend their life since they aren't necessary for 'fellowship' and companionship.

It's obvious, agnostic - too much THINKING is what shortens lives - that's probably why believers live longer than us atheists...

The idea of being religious is to DIE and go to Heaven to spend eternity with the Lord Jesus Christ so it is kind of ironic that religion extends your misery on Earth!
Speaking personally - I'm in no way miserable - far from it
