You could only see that woman as a Muslim abusing her child, and if it wasn't important to you, that wouldn't even have entered your brain - or your comments to her. A Chinese man was rude to me earlier, so should I mention that in any discussion about China's export products? I didn't ask him what Buddha would think of his behavior, just as I wouldn't mention the Q'uran to a Muslim person misbehaving near me.
Now see you've gone and done it again. No wonder nobody wants to talk to you... you... you.... flaming liberally liberals anymore. Being PC is such a drag. I can't even talk normal you're always making me feel bad about just talking for fear of incriminating myself. That's my freedom of speech! For the love of Pete!!!....

NO!!! DO NOT LOVE PETE! Foul! Bad! Adam and Eve, not STEVE, and definitely not Pete.

Here is a page link that will illustrate the basic types of Muslim female dress. I will correct my mistake in stating that the Muslim woman was wearing a Burqua, she was in fact wearing a Abaya with a headscarf (Hijab). The term "Burqua" and "Abaya" are used interchangeably which is not correct as they are two different types of garments. The Burqua is worn with a face veil, while the Abaya is worn with an Hijab. In more modern Islamic counties, the Hijab is often worn alone without an Abaya or Burqua (Burka). I just educated myself re the different types of Muslim female dress. I can accept the Hijab as Muslim women's dress, but I view the Burqua and Abaya to be degrading to women and draconian in its purpose and function.

Did you know all of this when you met the woman? Just curious... And I do know the difference between various types of dress, but not EVERY detail - so I will definitely check out the link. I can't say I like them either, but if a woman chooses to wear one I'm not going to judge her.

I knew of the basic Muslim garb, but I did have the Burqua confused with the Abaya. I knew about the Hijab as I have seen many Muslim women wearing just the Hijab in my area. I think that the full Burqua that completely covers the woman head to toe is the garb that incenses me the most re the treatment and role of Muslim women in the US as I have witnessed some not-so-nice treatment by males that must accompany these women according to the Quaran and Sharia Law. If it wasn't for the fact that I would spend time in the "gray-bar motel", I certainly would have intervened in this deprecating and disrespectful treatment of Muslim women by their male "handlers".

Do you get equally overwrought over stacked heels, tube tops and daisy dukes? Just curious.

Please don't be an a-hole! The Muslim/Islamic culture of dress is about as far from Western standards and cultures as George Bush is from FDR!

I totally agree. Diversity does NOT work anywhere, certainly not in the U.S. Have you seen it work recently? Do people get along better now than they did when we had "Americanization"?

And, the OP is right - people will yell "racism" even if it's about something else, like the treatment of a child. I wish he had called social services. I would have taken her license number and called later.

Moi?

So, some red-neck wife beater who dressing his "lady" like a runnaway from a porn set doesn't get your goat, so to speak?

As for Islamic dress being as far from Western standards... that's why many Islamic women prefer to observe hijab.

That's funny because unlike most countries, it seems to have worked, all things considered, pretty well for over 300 years.
