For anyone curious about events from within Gaza as seen through the eyes of reporters, here's a link.
Considering that Israel has still banned foreign journalists from reporting what's happening, very little is getting out that isn't IDF-approved reports.
Wafa is recognized by reuters and the bbc and many international newspapers as a legitimate source from within.
This is what I never understand. One of the rationales for the US supporting Israel is that they provide us with such great intel. But we wouldn't need that intel in the first place if it weren't for all the conflicts Israel is involved in??!
Excuse me? Are you saying that Israel is the source of all U.S. problems with terrorists?
In any case, Israel's intel warned us of a major attack one month before 9/11. We ignored them. So it's not like we use their intel, anyway, is it?
The folks in Gaza voted for Hamas, and therefore their charter:
Article Thirteen: Peaceful Solutions, [Peace] Initiatives and International Conferences
[Peace] initiatives, the so-called peaceful solutions, and the international conferences to resolve the Palestinian problem, are all contrary to the beliefs of the Islamic Resistance Movement. For renouncing any part of Palestine means renouncing part of the religion; the nationalism of the Islamic Resistance Movement is part of its faith, the movement educates its members to adhere to its principles and to raise the banner of Allah over their homeland as they fight their Jihad: “Allah is the all-powerful, but most people are not aware.â€
Article Thirty-Two: The Attempts to Isolate the Palestinian People
World Zionism and Imperialist forces have been attempting, with smart moves and considered planning, to push the Arab countries, one after another, out of the circle of conflict with Zionism, in order, ultimately, to isolate the Palestinian People. Egypt has already been cast out of the conflict, to a very great extent through the treacherous Camp David Accords, and she has been trying to drag other countries into similar agreements in order to push them out of the circle of conflict. Hamas is calling upon the Arab and Islamic peoples to act seriously and tirelessly in order to frustrate that dreadful scheme and to make the masses aware of the danger of coping out of the circle of struggle with Zionism. Today it is Palestine and tomorrow it may be another country or other countries. For Zionist scheming has no end, and after Palestine they will covet expansion from the Nile to the Euphrates. Only when they have completed digesting the area on which they will have laid their hand, they will look forward to more expansion, etc. Their scheme has been laid out in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and their present [conduct] is the best proof of what is said there. Leaving the circle of conflict with Israel is a major act of treason and it will bring curse on its perpetrators.
Doesn't seem like an organization looking for mutually agreeable solutions to me, I'm fine with Israel knocking them on their butts for continuous rocket attacks on civilian areas.
Please, NewToCa: Don't confuse the issue with minor details. The Palestinian State is a victim. Now step out of the way, please, so the forum may continue to reveal the nefarious machinations of that insidious U.S. "Jewish Lobby," as well as those monkey-like murderous Jews over in Israel, currently enacting Phase One of their secret plan to take over the world. And let's not even get started on how they cut out and eat the hearts of Arab and Christian children. Thank you.
Reading what many Palestinians on the internet have to say makes it pretty clear to me that they live in a medieval reality. For them, this war is not about sovereignty or dignity; it's about what it's always been about, for hundreds of years: the destruction of the Jews. Nothing Israel does, in terms of concessions, would be enough. Nothing. Hamas will continue to attack Israel nonstop, since their stated goal is, and always has been, Israel's destruction. It matters little, therefore, in terms of ending conflict, whether Israel defends itself through attacks or doesn't: the attacks from Hamas will continue. So there is no military reason to continue attacking Hamas. As importantly, if not more so, since there are too many civilians being killed (thanks to Hamas' deft positioning of them as targets), and since the war will result in nothing of lasting consequence, other than a predictable renewed hate on the part of Hamas maniacs, and more dead Palestinians and Israelis, what's the point? How this can be resolved is beyond me. As for what the U.S. should do: no clue there, either. Fortunately for the U.S., we do not border either Afghanistan or Pakistan--or Palestine, for that matter. Because if we did, we would be facing the same daily assault.
Many words...hard to digest...but if you say so, then you're right and everyone else is wrong. Hamas is not terrorist, OK?
