The link provided shows which states are affected. And, this is not a political party problem, it is a dollar problem. State Budget Troubles Worsen
other than states raising taxes, how do you think they can deal with budget shortages? some states have already tried to trim expenses by laying off workers, and cutting services. what's your opinion? should we all move to states which are doing ok?
Here's a surrealistic vision: suppose people took some responsibility and started voting for real leaders, instead of keeping the same sleazy politicians in office term after term. I know, I know--there must have been something strange in my coffee this morning!
I know in my state they are cutting payrolls, cutting spending, looking to sell assets(turnpikes) and considering tax increases.
The US government is even more broke and they are planning on increasing spending, expanding government payrolls, spending on infrastructure( okay, not a bad idea) and exploring new speculative industries( green technology and anti global warming measures)and cutting taxes.
Bush was bad but Obama just seems even more "out there" and out of touch than even he was. Promising pie in the sky is one thing, but to actually spend money trying to find it, that's actually threatening the country's financial future. Getting a new credit card when you're broke and hopelessly in debt is not going to solve your financial problems. Somebody needs to tell Obama that, Bush never got it. We don't need 4 more years of Bush, although Obama may get impeached before then.
Escalating property values, because of lower interest rates, gave the green light for many States to jump on the band wagon and increase property taxes to reflect inflated real estate prices. This hootenanny has come to an end so the States need to control their spending by cutting back unlike the fed.
I surely do dislike the idea of selling american assets, brigdes, roads and so forth, because that will mean we won't only not own them anymore, but we'll have no say so of how the roads and bridges, infrastructure, are run or used, and, I am in fear that the sale of these may mean the states may be back in the same position as now. lacking funds. and one poster here said something about taxes, which is the usual answer for government when they can't seem to make ends meet. I just wish states would be more fiscally responsible.
anyone reading my post: please, let's not allow this thread to slip into a political discussion about party affiliations, I think we've enough of those already, as I don't believe it is a democratic or republican fault. and please, let's not be singling out certain governors because the problem is so widespead, we could probably point fingers at least 44 governors. it must be because our economy is so weak.
we could also ask governors of north dakota, wyoming, montana, texas and west virginia how they've managed to keep a tight rein on things.
