Same-sex marriage opponents in California now want their names hidden from the public (money, supporters)

Prop 8 supporters apparently sent letters to dozens of companies who donated to the No-on-Prop8 campaign before the election, saying that if they didn't donate the same amount to protectmarriage.com they would "out" their company.
Oh, how I hope I live to see the day when society looks back on all of this and thinks, "How could people be so hateful?"
Although there are many bumps along the road, honestly, I don't think it'll be long before people do look back at it in that way. Twenty years at the most - maybe not even ten years.
I tend to find many people my age and younger and for gay marriage. In fact, out of my group of friends, there is only one person who is Republican and against gay marriage. You know, before he woke up and suddenly found Jesus and God, he was a Democrat who supported Kerry and was for gay marriage.
I think it is mostly the elderly generation who is against gay marriage. My dad is against it, my uncles, aunts, parents of my friends, etc, etc. But my cousins, my sister, our friends are all for it. Hmm..I really think it ties in with age and generation. I do see a connection.
But once they die and our generation moves in (say another 10 or 20 years from now) I have no doubt in my mind that gay marriage will be allowed in the USA. I know I will live to see the day my fellow Americans who are gay and lesbian will be allowed to share the same happiness straight couples can. Even though I am straight, I feel for you all and it will be a victory for me as well. Well, is it my victory? LOL
To the dismay of the radical Republicans a threat of boycotts against pro-gay marriage businesses actually backfired. The public outrage that Fed-Ex\ McDonald's etc faced boycotts by evangelicals was loudly condemned. There were organized demonstrations\ letters of protest to businesses who funded prop 8 though it appears the anger has lowered a bit [though I'm sure the Mormon temple in LA still gets picketed].

I agree - people in the future - young people today who don't care about such things - will look back and say, "it was really awful back then - good thing we're more tolerant than our elders were".

Thank you - I'm a lesbian, and I just don't get why anyone CARES who I marry. Luckily, I live in Massachusetts!
I work with young people (I'm 58), and they couldn't care less about this issue. I agree that it will be allowed everywhere - once something like this starts, it can't be stopped, especially with a more tolerant generation taking over.
It was a voter initiative that led to public disclosure of campaign donations in California. The initiative was passed by a majority of the voters. Now Prop. 8 supporters want to overturn that law.
Can't they respect democracy? I mean - "the people have spoken".
It appears that they only respect the laws when the laws work in their favor. I guess they're hoping that an "activist judge" will decide to change the law in their favor. Hypocrites.

Proponents of a ballot measure that banned same sex marriage filed a lawsuit in federal court this week seeking to overturn state campaign finance laws that require that names and personal information of donors to state political campaigns be made public.
They claimed that donors to Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in California after one of the most heated campaigns in recent memory, have been the victim of threats and harassment because of their support for ending same-sex marriage was made public.
It's sad that the "tolerant" left scares people that much.
There it is!!! I just KNEW some rightie would come on here & cry foul or talk about the tolerance of liberals. God, you're so predictable, it's so boring! Oh yeah, by the way, how is it "scaring" anyone? It's public record. Please read up on things before you post something that you obviously have no idea what it is. If they're so scared about it, they shouldn't have supported something so hateful. Hypocrites.
The militant gay activists are harassing, threatening and intimidating supporters of prop 8. I guess they think the more militant and violent they are, that will change peoples minds.
