The Somali pirates aren't waging a religious war. Its plain thievery, they found a way to make a living in a country without laws. Otherwise they would not be releasing the crew and ships when ransoms are paid. THINK ABOUT IT. They are releasing ships and crew members when ransoms are paid. On land, while waiting for payment they even have cooks that can cook various types of cuisine. Jihadists won't do that for "infidels". Not all 1 billion muslims are terrorists.

Do you think every person in a Muslim country is a Jihadist hellbent on attacking America? 'Cause that's like a billion people or so.
This is the problem with latching on to single news stories to base your theories on.
It just might be time to station troops on the commercial ships of the world or allow the Captain to own suitable weapons. Simply return to the armed merchantmen of the 15 to 18 hundreds. I am pretty certain a Harpoon missile launcher doesn’t take up that much room. I know a .50 cal machine gun dosen’t.
