Washington Court: Teachers Can Have Sex With 18-Year-Old Students
FoxNews.com
Quote:
SEATTLE — Washington state law does not bar teachers from having sex with 18-year-old students.
That's the decision of a three-judge panel of the Washington Court of Appeals, which on Tuesday ordered the dismissal of a case brought against Hoquiam High School's former choir teacher.
The teacher, Matthew Hirschfelder, was charged with first-degree sexual misconduct with a minor. He challenged a judge's refusal to dismiss his case. The appeals court unanimously agreed that the state law is vague, and that the Legislature only intended to forbid sexual contact between school employees and students who are 16 or 17.
Hirschfelder was 33 in 2006, at the time of the alleged relationship with the young woman. He resigned the next year.

Well, this Washington state court ruling certainly gives new meaning to "Sex Education"!

Talk about stupid. You're paid to educate students of any age not bed them. Even though both parties are legally allowed to have a sexual relationship, teachers still command a position of authority and should uphold their obligations as an educator.

If it's consentual, so what?
18 year olds are adults.
We send them to war, they die for stupid reasons.
They know their own minds.
They can be married, they have kids, they are tried as adults in court.
They can enter into binding contracts.
Oh yeah, it's for the chilllllldrun.

Ah, the same old retarded "consentual" argument. Where have morals gone in society? The classroom is for learning. Teachers are paid to teach, not be escorts. Also think of conflict of interest with teacher and the student having sex with her.

While I agree with the premise of your post, there is still the consideration of an authoritative figure (teacher) and a subordinate subject (student). This is the reason why the Armed Forces forbids sexual relations between superior and subordinate ranks. There is just too much opportunity for intimidation between superior and subordinate persons, no mater the ages involved.

Nobody who doesn't believe in your phantom god really gives a damn about your idea of morals.
But even if they did, there is a difference between a breach of professional standards and a crime.

Unethical? Perhaps... Criminal? At 18, we are technically adults, so consentual relations are our own business. My question is why an educated adult would want to deal with young, sloppy, inexperienced sex in the first place? Especially for female teachers...Speedy Gonzales, anyone? There are plenty of attractive people in the world who know what they are doing, who are not their students, and who are old enough to take out to dinner and not be embarassed by in the event they run into a colleague or family member...suppose it must be a forbidden fruit thing...or a Lolita complex...
