you ask any mentally stable guy if he has ever looked at porn & he's going to say well sure, then ask if it has ever caused any problems in his life, answers going to be no.

If porn takes over someones life or ruins it they're just flat out 1 sick puppy.

If someone really wants to come down on something come down on drugs & alcohol, that is what's actually ruining peoples lives, men, women, children, even newborn babies.
I respect your opinion. I have some issues with what you're saying regarding someone being a sick puppy and also there are worse things in life like drugs, alcohol etc. You're right that drugs and alcohol can ruin people's lives. I have seen that in my own family (alcoholism killed one family member).

To say someone is a sick puppy because they're addicted to porn really isn't a fair statement. Porn is highly addictive and can take the place of so many things in a person's life. If you're married it fills the void of a spouse not wanting to be with you physically. If your spouse has gained an excessive amount of weight and you don't find her physically attractive anymore then the women on the internet, mags or videos definitely make up for that. And when you do spend time with your wife, all you have to do is close your eyes and think about that other person. I've seen it ruin marriages and friendships. It nearly ruined mine, but I have an amazing wife who is beyond forgiving. I have seen the effects firsthand.

Another poster said something to the effect that it's a huge industry in SoCal and should we just offshore it and people lose their jobs? I'll read between the lines of his/her post and what I hear is that it's all about the money. We don't want people to lose their jobs....what would that do to our economy? Porn is nothing more than human trafficking where people makes boatloads of money. Unfortunately these men and women go into this industry willingly because they need the money. Do you think a woman's life goal is to really be a "hot babe" in a porn video? I know that is not what I was thinking when my daughter was born, or on every birthday and special event when I reflect on how much time I have left with her before she graduates high school and goes off to her life outside our home.

Lastly, like I mentioned, it's not a fair statement to call someone a sick puppy for an addiction that they deal with. You have your own life issues and possibly addictions. Someone could easily turn around and call you that too. And while you may not care if they do, others will take offense.

Visual erotic stimulation has been around since the beggining of man (I remember going to old Roman ruins and seeing drawings of sex acts on a preserved wall). Men are just programmed that way. Can't change human nature.

Porn is subject to abuse just like anything else - alchohol, drugs, too many hotdogs, etc. Are we asking for more regulation here or just pointing out the dangers of porn? I like the regulations the way it is - based on community standards, keep out of childrens hands, etc. I don't want the government telling me what I can or cannot look at.
The dangers of porn? Well that comes down to personal responsibility, and you can't regulate that.

I strongly disagree with your statement that men are just programmed that way. At the risk of this turning into a religious debate: Who do you think did our programming? (you don't have to answer that )

It's true that porn has been around for decades even millenia. Decades ago however porn was a much different thing. What is considered "soft" porn nowadays was "hard" porn years ago. What is considered "hard" porn nowadays was not even conceiveable decades ago. What was considered "soft" (and maybe even some "hard") porn back then nowadays is common place and not even noticed by much of the population. For example those Victoria Secret commercials would no doubt have been considered "soft" porn many years ago. Today it is just another commercial.

Just a question to majoun: If it's so "boring", why are so many people addicted to it?????

[quote=majoun;439328]A large number of peoples' livelihoods in Southern California depend on the porn industry. It has become a pillar of the SoCal economy. Want those jobs to be "offshored" as well?

Actually YES, I'd like to see it shut down everywhere!

And not not all men are "programed" to like this stuff. Christian men are not and before you say oh really???? I mean the real true Christian man who really does live the Christian life, like my husband and others I know.

Men are "programmed" to react to visual stimulation through millions of years of instict designed to procreate the human race. It's a scientific and biological fact. Who did our programming? - evolution, or God's Plan if you want to put it that way.
Now, of course, men have free will and can chose not to react to it if they wish.

Pornography can ruin relationships, and it can also affect how men view women. Men who are immersed in porn see women as objects for their own pleasure. Someone I know actually had to end a relationship because of the way it was affecting their sex life, and that's very sad.

Yes, it is a matter of degree. A guy who goes to a strip club once every six months is not addicted to porn. A guy who spends two hours a day looking at it...

What bothers me more than anything is the wide availability of porn. It used to be very difficult; guys had to leave their homes to go to an X-rated book store, movie theater, or strip club, but that's it. Now it's all over the Internet. It can be downloaded onto your cell phone or other device. It's creepy to think of all these men with hundreds of thousands of images and videos on their computers.

It is not a cut and dried subject.

Joee is right, males and females typically react different in public at least.

The funny part about the female reaction is you never hear them blame other females for participation in any of the porn. For the "Normal" stuff you could never have porn if all women refused to participate. Somehow it gets geared around to the women are victims. Even tho they all probably get paid, many seeking out the work. Many women run porn operations but again are not fully responsible for what they do. If men like porn they are viewed as criminals, if women are attracted to porn they are viewed as being medically sick, usually without a mental negative aspect. An area of a total double standard applied but that is in keeping with most things of a sexual nature in the USA.

You can look at the subject from many different ways. One is it is an expression of human wants, desires and fascination and a way of experiencing some of those feelings without any of the risks, costs or longer term implications. Same as Disney World, the general movies or most types of entertainment, a form of escape from reality.

Many normal men might say they like it because their significant other will not do or perform or excite them in a particular way. May be some truth in that statement. Most women can get into some pretty good hang ups when it comes to real sex. They also like to lay all the deviations off on men alone. But I would also suspect a lot of women would love to participate if they thought they could without any ramifications. Many would love to get paid. Once they get thru a certain barrier, nothing seems to matter, same with any aspect of the sex industry or trade. Way too many women view sex in general as a type weapon and try to use it that way.

Porn is also like most other potentially dangerous activities, the extremes can get way out of bounds. But any attempt to regulate it is probably doomed to failure. Child porn is a very hot subject but just seems to be another excuse for filling up more prisons. Maybe something should be done with such people but certainly not to those dramatic reactions. In a way it is the same with drugs, major sentences for both porn and drugs are not the solution. Maybe the view practiced in some European countries is better. Attempt some types of regualtion without openly promoting it. Try to view any harmful effects in the degree they present.

The other thing not normally mentioned is go to countries where porn is either banned or controlled. It is not forgetten about, instead the opposite. People seek it in desperate ways. Japan and Korea come to mind. All those Muslim countries and they can get executed for it, but still it is there. It is the underground requirement that probably drives an almost abnormal interest.

If I had to chose, I would far rather have a legal porn industry to slake the thirst for forbidden fruits than a legal prostitution industry. It is the attempt to act out the fantasy that is the most dangerous.
