If you are talking to me, your name is quite apt for the state of California. In FREEFALL!!

As far as Republican Arnie, didn't we just see the end of a free spending Republican president? In both of their cases they are not true conservatives, they are socialists with an (R) next to their names.

Essentially what you're saying is both parties are screwing California.

~Mike (thinks there is enough blame to go around...)

Ca is not much diff than the rest of the country, maybe better off than Mi simply because there is a broader pool of people who actually have money. So you dont think GW or Arnie are true conservatives? Then why did the conservatives go to so much trouble to replace one 'socialist' with another? Are Californians just stupid or high on something?

There are different kinds of conservatives just as there are different kinds of liberals. However, it seems particularly common for conservatives to think that THEIR kind of conservatism is the only legit one.

Bush is certainly a conservative albeit not an economic conservative. He is a social conservative and a neocon.

Arnold? Centrist, just like his Dem predecessor Davis - if anything he's slightly more socially liberal than Davis. And looking to be more and more just as inept although given the structure of CA government being an effective governor is extremely difficult.

The Republicans backed the recall because they wanted to get one of their own in power - and since Davis had intervened in the GOP primary running ads against centrist Dick Riordan because he would have been a much tougher opponent than right winger Bill Simon, they felt a need for revenge.

Not all Republicans are conservatives and not all Democrats are liberals. Party loyalty can trump ideology. Arnold's Dem opponent in 2006, Phil Angelides, agreed with him on literally every single issue.

As a native born and raised Californian I think both parties share the blame for California's problems. I don't think they'll get fixed until there are some serious changes in the political system - the structure of CA government is so dysfunctional that it's a wonder things EVER worked. (They did for so long mainly because at one time both parties in the state acted responsibly, and the state had other things going for it such that it could function in spite of its government).

I agree that California has its problems, but you know that you are condemning a whole state and all democrats in the whole state by giving an example of a strip mall you rode by on a bike, right?

What did you expect? Stupid is as stupid does, and the original posting is DEFINITELY industrial-strength stupid!!

I believe it was that liberal Governor Pete Wilson that made California a financial laughing stock! Oh wait Wilson was a Republican, how ironic!
