Story in the WaPo today: Obama Staff Arrives to White House Stuck in Dark Ages of Technology - washingtonpost.com

Excerpts:
- Two years after launching the most technologically savvy presidential campaign in history, Obama officials ran smack into the constraints of the federal bureaucracy yesterday, encountering a jumble of disconnected phone lines, old computer software, and security regulations forbidding outside e-mail accounts.

- members of the White House team came to work on Tuesday ... only to discover that it was impossible to know which programs could be updated, or even which computers could be used for which purposes ... team members, accustomed to working on Macs, found computers with 6-year-old versions of Microsoft software. Laptops were scarce, assigned to only a few people in the West Wing. The team was left struggling to put closed captions on online videos.

Helluva job, bushies....

Those poor hip and upcoming movers and shakers will have to use Windows, oh noes!

Although it would be pretty funny if they just gutted all the old tech and replaced it with Macs and Linux servers.

You mean they can't write on someone's wall on Facebook? Maybe the Bush administration had better things to do with their time, like run a country.

The government overall is woefully behind on technology. I've written military web applications and they were for IE5 and IE6. This was less than a year ago.

I may be getting cynical in my old age (ok, I probably am...) but maybe the condition of the equipment was purposefully left that way?? Who knows what bushies, et al, were really using?

Ha, I like this! Best prank ever! But it's more of an Obama staff-style trick.

Judging by foreign policy not much more than a big stick and "my way or the highway" rhetoric.
