WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama dispatched his top economic adviser and vice president Sunday to relentlessly press their sales pitch for an $825 billion stimulus package to halt the U.S. economic slide, as the plan came under more fire from Republican leaders.

McCain won't vote for stimulus as it stands - Capitol Hill- msnbc.com

Sucks that it takes the Democrats having complete control to get Republicans to start acting like Republicans.

Gosh, is McCain finally going to be a Republican? Naw.....he'll cave in the end. He always does.

What is needed is a cut in the Capital Gains Tax and NOT an end to the Bush Tax Cuts (wrong thing to do, which will worsen the economy).

This all just shows that (as usual) Obama and the Democrats have no clue about economics. They have no idea what they are doing.

Tax cuts work every time: John F. Kennedy, Ronald W. Reagan, George W. Bush.

Giving so-called "tax cuts" to people who don't pay income tax in the first place is simply a "transfer payment", and is very, very short term in effect. It isn't going to work. This is just "redistribution of wealth (somebody elses) to people who didn't earn it.

Joe the Plumber was right.

That's why there's only a handful left, because when they finally got into power, they quit acting like Republicans.

Apparently, the Republican party didn't learn their lesson after getting it handed to them in the '06.

I agree completely.

It didn't help that they were stuck with a titular leader who didn't know whether to shyt or go blind, so he just closed his eyes real tight and farted.

The resulting effluvium will haunt the GOP for at least the next decade.
