USPS is actually my preferred source for express/priority mail. They are less expensive than UPS/FEDEX and I've never had a problem with something arriving on time.
What I HAVE had issues with is regular, everyday mail. Mail in general makes a lot less sense in big cities. Here in Chicago, service is notoriously bad, and I've had several items lost or delayed over the years.
God, Obama gets in and now mail service is cut. And this is just the beginning. Its probably going to get so bad that in 1 year from now we are going to have community mail days. We will all have to wait 8 hours in line once a week to recieve our mail from just one local post office.
It won't matter to the libbys though since they don't use the mail to pay their bills or pay their taxes.
[MOD CUT/personal attack] FedEx, UPS, DHL and all cost more then the USPS and deliver to fewer areas. Go ahead and try to get any of them to deliver to a remote part of the country. They won't do it. Only the USPS will do it.
I used USPS for my business for a long time, shipping 60-75 packages a week. They averaged losing one package every three months for seven years.
The last thing they lost was a poster in a mailing tube that I sent to my daughter. the poster was wrapped in a plastic bag and both addresses were on the inside of the bag and the outside of the mailing tube. The address on the outside was protected by wide clear tape.
The poster was a print of an original painting I had auctioned to raise money for the primate house at the zoo, and was signed by the artist who had done the painting.
I shipped it from Columbia to Nashville in September, 2005. It has never been seen again, nor will I give them another chance to screw up my affairs.
The added cost of using another courier is well worth it for the peace of mind.

Good God. Get it straight. If Obama is a big scary socialist, the mail service wouldn't get cut. It'd get expanded.
You could at least attempt to make a little sense. Just a tiny bit.

Who pays taxes? the only thing we need mail for is to bring our Government Checks.
Now that Obama is President liberals have all been give a pass on taxes. We no longer pay any taxes, and the conservatives will be getting smaller tax refunds this year to cover the escrow for next year.
Apparently you didn't get the memo. They must have mailed it.
Frankly, if the USPS is having THAT much problem making ends meet, why don't they eliminate bulk mail postage and charge first class on all that junk mail that gets delivered, whether you want it or not! Maybe THAT would cut down on all the junk mail that wastes so much paper, space, and effort. And while they're at it, get rid of all that wasteful postal junk whatchamacallits that litter the counter areas...especially in the smaller post offices.
But, as usual, they'll probably raise the rates again....what a waste!
