The checks worked exactly as designed. They propped up demand in the short run. Unfortunately, what was on the far side of that bridge was even worse than what was on the side that we began from.

Otherwise, I imagine everyone is getting a little tired of the "It's pure pork" refrain. By the definition that's being used here, everything the government does could be called pork. I realize it's a stern challenge to support any actual complaint against the stimulus package, but surely some at least could give it a try. As uninsightful as the idea that money disappears once someone spends it was, at least it was something...

Amen to this. I just don't get the "but he promised!" mindset. I guess he was supposed to fix the entire economy's woes in a week after being sworn in.

Don't give Obama all the credit. He has a democratic congress to help him screw things up. He desperately wanted the repubs to go along with it (so the dems wouldn't have to take the blame all alone), but they finallly showed some backbone and said "no way".

I don't believe that Obama has betrayed America. In my view, we Americans have been brain-washed to base our decisions on emotions alone, so around 58% of Americans believed on the godly image of Obama, presented to us on a silver platter by the news media. Also, the Republicans got an old man who is not too much different than Obama, except for being a Republican dinosaur. Obama is just more socialist than the Republican candidate, and new generations of Americans have no idea of what socialism is, since they haven't lived through it. So, Obama, which is nothing more than an illusion in the majority of voters, became our President. Obama will do what he does best, which is to continue what Bust started and move our nation closer to socialism.

More liklely, he would sincerely like to lead from the middle and bring an end to the mindless aspects of partisanship that have gone on now since 1994. He's repeatedly extended olive branches and all of them have been rebuffed. I'm sure he'll try some more. He's not easily dissuaded. But at some point that branch the Reps are sitting on will simply be sawed off, and they can go sit in there little caucus and play pinochle while exchanging old war stories all day...

Haven't read all the responses yet... but just perhaps... after he got the job he got hold of info he didn't have before...

Or...he could just be a politician.

All made possible by Bush, Cheney, and the Republican Congress who drove the economy off a cliff.
