Often we make fun of the French for the reason that they were cowardly during World War 2. It is often said that the French only have "reverse" gear in their tanks! I do not really know how the French are in wars. Maybe they are rather chicken.
But when I see the French politically they seem anything but cowardly. The go on mass protest, nationwide strikes and they know how to raise 7 kinds of Hell when the government attempts to rape them. And they do not put up with much from their companies and bosses either which is why they get things like 6 weeks leave and Friday afternoons off.
It seems like we are the ones who cower. In the United States we are scared of the government and we are scared of our bosses while in France the opposite seems to be true. We would never- even if we were all homeless and starving- raise the hell the French do. We would just accept it as "well I guess I deserve this" while the government gives trillions of more dollars to the rich bankers and criminals on Wall St.
I say the French are the brave!

You're right, that we do not organize in this country. It's communist to fight the bosses, you know. In America you love and defend the bosses because one day you or your children could be the bosses.

Americans by the millions are mad about the bailouts, for example. Do we march on Washington? We say we would, but we're not organized.

Are you saying that you want to rebel against Obama? I think you better delete your post... since I know you love Obama...

Politically and socially, the French, like other Europeans, are much more rebellious. This, I think is a good thing. People in America seem to forget that officials are public servants. They work for their constituency. The should go to work absolutely terrified everyday that they are going to do a poor job and anger their voters. Here, it is the other way around. The people largely look on and shake their fists at the unchecked power of the government.

Something perverse has happened here. For some reason, mainstream America has come to view protest as something for extremists and pseudo-hippy college students. They've become far too complacent. Considering the circumstances under which this country was founded, it is even more ironic. Divide et Impera, I guess.

Would I be comfortable with a member of the French military "watching my back"?

No, I would not.

But you are saying Americans are cowards for not rebelling against Obama, right now... for someone who loves Obama, that is an odd thing to say... he IS (its not even a question at this point) planning to bailout more banks... are you now determined to "rebel" as you said before or are you a coward? Its the same Obama that you love, are you trying to tell people they "need" to rebel against him right this minute? Your hero...

You might want to compare their rate of unemployment to ours before making such statements.

It appears they're willing to protest against having to work. Perhaps if they put as much effort in their job as they do on the streets their national economy would be in much better shape. I've seen similiar protest in parts of Europe. They're usually organized by some socialist/communist groups.

Unemployment rates in the EU are claculated to reflect true joblessness. If ours were as honest, it would be 50% more than what it is. The REAL rate of US unemployment is 8% times 1/2 plus 8% which makes it 12%. I do not know the rate in France right now but I bet it is not much different than that rate.
