"Republicans are very clear about what they do NOT want to spend money on, Infrastructure, Green Energy, Broadband, Education, Investment in Science and Technology, Health Care, and helping American Manufacturing. So what DO the Republicans want to spend money on? Tax Cuts for Corporations and the rich The Republicans have had their clever conference calls, email blasts, likely done a few focus groups in Tulsa and Tupelo, and are all in synch to rename the President's Recovery and Reinvestment Plan, a plan designed to create jobs, merely a “Spending' Bill”. Once again the Democrats who always have to clean up the Elephants giant mess with a ginourmous shovel are tagged, “Tax and Spend Liberals”. We’re bleeding jobs and they’re using Regan-Era Marketing tactics to get you to vote against your own best interests, AGAIN. It’s not working. The JOBS bill is moving forward. 2/3 of Americans believe it’s needed and most of us are desperate for it but does that stop Republicans from saying right there on the TV that Americans are against it? Nope. They keep lying through their veneers but take a look at the polling."

"I’m not quite sure why they haven't added the 'tax' word to the slogan this time but I think it may be because if that word gets tossed around too much, people will start waking up to the fact that the richest Americans have only been paying around 17% on their earnings while we pay 39% on ours, and of course the inconvenient truth that MOST Corporations have managed to pay NOTHING in Federal Taxes for years. Good reason to keep that word under the radar. For now."

The Republicans just want tax cuts for corporations and the rich in their stimulus bill.

The Democrats have too much useless pork-spending in their stimulus bill.

There, I just summed up most of the threads on the stimulus bill in this forum

Republicans wants home mortgages to be lowered to 4% to get the housing market and the construction jobs moving. Also, tax cuts for the bottom 2 tax groups. These are for people making under 65,000. So if that is rich, OK, maybe in your opinion. There is not tax cuts for anyone else in the plan.

They don't want to give money to the Phillipinos in the Phillipines, honey bee insurnace, STD prevention, ATV paths, etc.

Dropping mortgage rates by 1% isn't going to lead to realtors being trampled to death by potential home buyers. And, while tax cuts are all fine and dandy for the working joe, they won't put 1.7 million workers back to work.

You have not even looked at the Republican package have you? It beats the version the Democrats made by far, and includes healthcare, infrastructure upgrades, eduction, etc. Basically the Democrat's version, but more sensible (as expected from the Senate, as opposed to the House).

It is hilarious that the Democrats are so desperate to be right on this one that they have begun to deliberately lie to better themselves. Even worse is the fact that House Democrats are using economic crisis for political gain. The mentality seems to be "give us [Congress] a blank check, and we will fix all the problems..". That sounds familiar....

Republicans propose their own $713 billion stimulus plan.

GOP senators draft stimulus alternative - CNN.com
"A group of Republican senators drafted an alternative stimulus measure that narrows government spending to infrastructure programs and helping unemployed Americans, addresses the housing crisis and relies mostly on tax cuts."

We tried the tax cut approach to stimulating the economy once, we had no choice since Bush and the Republicans would not have passed any other type of stimulus package.

Tax cuts won't build infrastructure or create jobs.

The real Elephant is the thorny issue of Executive Compensation, even in the private sector American entreprenuers have been filled over time with the notion that they must shed jobs the nanosecond earnings fall. The present stimulus once again puts money in the hands of people who believe that they have suffered mightily under the past year or two of meltdown and they will simply keep employment at present levels and may in fact make further cuts and relocate factories to Mexico and China or send skilled labor jobs to India with the bailout money that gives them the needed capital to setup the high speed intercontinental Internet links or supply building capital for foreign expansion. Give the $$$ to the people! No other strategy will work.

Dear Leisesturm

Just out of curiosity, how do you outsource construction?

Curiously speaking,

The best estimates by economist is that the present plan will drop u8nemployment at best 1-11/2 % in the next two years. That certaqinly wouoldn't keep it at present levels. The tax cuts to the middle and lower classes thruy payroll reduction in current plan will mean about $20.00 per week.In the mean time it gives million in tax breaks to the movie industry ;funds condom distrbution and millions to the arts right away. It has litle that will go to the middle class and below and does litlte to solve the housing problem. Its full of pork spending for special interest plain and simple.

Nice try, however next time I suggest quoting other parts of the article as well;

[quote=Article$114 billion for infrastructure projects, $138 billion for extending unemployment insurance, food stamps and other provisions to help those in need and $31 billion to address the housing crisis.[/quote]

Maybe the frozen $350 billion from the TARP bailout can go towards the proposed tax cuts for the poor and small business. It sure would help cover the costs.

Alternatively the Democrat and Republican plans should be amended and merged. Now we need a word for such a thing...

And for future reference; if your side of an argument is without a shadow of a doubt the only way to go, you should not need to lie or commence in personal attacks to make it look better.
