The problem, he says, is the government is trying to perpetuate a "phony economy" based on borrowing and spending. With the U.S. consumer tapped out

I wondered about this myself. Our currency is now almost exclusively plastic.
Besides, personally I think there are cultural indicators that seem to predict a future like the collapsing Roman Empire.

People have tried to discredit Schiff for his customers (me being one of them) and their losses. What they don't tell you is the gold and silver through either the Perth Mint or physical is not counted in these cases, nor is the short selling hedge through discount brokers (since EuroPac charges a commission, I don't use them for anything other than buying foreign stocks). Plus, I'm still getting really good dividends. In fact, I'm up huge this year especially since I used some of my reserve cash to buy these shares while they were low, something like 1-2 P/E.

"gained notoriety in 2007-08 for his prescient calls on the housing bubble and U.S. stocks"

That's rather funny. Before coming to CD I used to spend quite a bit of time on a European talk board and prescience wasn't in short supply long before Shiff's pronouncements. It wasn't exactly rocket science, unless you were a Republican of course.

I hear a gold commercial every 10 minutes it seems like, during conservative talk radio - usually one of those "personal appeal" advertisements read by the show's host. Been like that since Sept/October at least (when I started listening).

Cash for your scrap Gold, But only they don't tell you they are only going to pay you Market Scrap Gold Prices. Folks if you are reading this, there is no value in paper money. Gold And Silver are your best barter device in the future. Hold on to it!
