I work with this chick who was in the reserves and was quite open about how she was using the military to get through school. When the invasion of Kuwait came around she had just gotten her papers asking her about reup.
She bailed early and it sounded like some sneaky clause she used to bow about before her time was up cause she didn't complete her time.

I just don't get why someone wouldn't fight if they are going to join at all? If you are not part of the war machine when there is a war, what would you be?

This was back when the UN and all politicians were behind the liberation of Kuwait, which btw is why we got involved with the area, (UN or not) in the first place.

Are you advocating we invade China to save the Tibetans, invade Russia to save the Chechens, Iran because because of a repressive regime, N. Korea another repressive regime, or only weak oil rich countries so we can secure "American interests."

US war veterans: ‘Killing Iraqi civilians is policy’

“The killing of innocent civilians is policy”, Iraq war veteran Mike Blake told a public meeting held on January 19 at the Different Drummer Cafe in Watertown, New York State, near the Canadian border.

“It’s unit policy and it’s Army policy. It’s not official policy, but it’s what’s happens on the ground everyday. It’s what unit commanders individually encourage.”

Iraq war veteran Matt Howard concurred: “These decisions are coming from the top down”, he said. “The tactics that we use, the policies that the military engages, will create situations, create dynamics, create — ultimately — atrocity.”
Did you bother to watch the video you posted from LiveLeak? Or did you just like the title? If you watch it, you'll see several things. First, no one is identified. You never see any of the shooters or their targets, so there is NO WAY to assume they are Soldiers, that they are in Iraq, or that they are shooting at civilians.
Second, the text that accompanies it says that you should go someplace else, following some limk (which I didn't bother to follow) that shows that the guys being fired upon were being fired upon IN RESPONSE TO THEM FIRING FIRST!! This is NOT a video that shows American Soldiers killing innocents.

At the end of the day...if you had killed civilians intentionally or not...you will have to live with your conscience, if you have one. And that includes Hamas sailordave and also the Israelis who shell UN safe areas with phosporus bombs..

Doesn't take much bravery to kill women and children...in uniform or out of it.
Of course, you absolve the people who actually kill women and children for political gain - the terrorists.

As for intent, if you lob a grenade or shoot a building full of holes, and you have a pretty good idea there might be possibility there are civilians inside, is that not still a form of murder?
What if our soldiers are being attacked from that building? Should the just walk away? How can they know there might be innocents there?

No one is absolving anyone. Ohh is there a separate criteria for terrorists and soldiers when it comes to killing women and children? No one should escape punishment be it terrorists or soldiers who target civilians.

You're right. Why not just call in artillery strikes or air strikes and flatten that building then. Its much easier that way.
