Your understanding of world affairs is somewhat different (and less accurate) than mine:
The problem is that elections in Venezuela are no longer free and fair. Mr. Chávez has turned national television into a state propaganda outlet, and... the government spent tens of millions of dollars to buy votes in the recent state and local elections. The state election authority, which is controlled by Mr. Chávez's loyalists, delayed the announcement of his defeat in last year's referendum; reliable sources say the president conceded only after he was told by military commanders that they would not put down protests against a falsified result. The official results, showing the margin of Mr. Chávez's loss, have not been released.
Oh an editorial???? The favorite right wing source.....lacks data ..LOL....I was hoping you could find a source that says the elections he won were not a legitimate expression of the will of the Country???
You cannot.
.......yes he does some dirty things with the TV and censorship.....GOP did dirty things with the DOJ, and our media....fake reporters, fake news clips,....paying reporters......media military analysts working with the Bush administration.......ring a bell??
You are certainly welcome to your opinion, but I doubt that would be so if you were in "Chavez controlled" Venezuala.
The man is a certifiable maniac. Support him if you will, but I prefer to support more moderate people. BTW, I am not a "right winger." I am a middle of the road conservative that doesn't or didn't support "Dubya" over the last four + years.
So take your right wing conspiracies and toss them out the door. You, apparently are one of the left wing/uninformed debaters that doesn't care to look at the big picture. You appear to see only your narrow vision of the world.
It is sad, really, really sad.
Again...would it kill you to support even 1/3 or your claims with an objective source????
For Hugo's reelection, as well as for the first referendum (don't know about this one; my guess is it's like the other two) UN observers monitored the election process and found no irregularities.
Unlike 2004, where they were kept from observing ours.
Gee, I am glad to see Chavez can run again, I guess 30+% inflation per year in a sign of a prospering economy?
Would you even see the name "Hugo Chavez" if it were not for the right wing media machine needing to find enemies and scary bad guys to get their audience worked up about???
strangely, openness and accountability have no place in “21st-century socialism”. Mr Chávez may not—yet—be a dictator, as some of his opponents aver, but he is an autocrat. The “defining features” of his Venezuela, according to a report last year by Human Rights Watch, a pressure group, include “discrimination on political grounds” and his government’s takeover of the judiciary.

Here is another article critical of Chavez, from the "right wing" Human Rights Watch Org:
