Are you all serious?! Why should money be taken from me to pay for PET FOOD? If someone CAN'T afford to feed their dog then they SHOULD NOT have the dog! This is totally insane! AHHHH!

Who is taking your money away from you? What is the title of the legislation or the law where it states that your tax payer dollars are being spent in such a way? It would be insane if it were true but I don't think it has been proven true yet.

Be careful of threads that start out with, "I heard from a guy on this show one time"...

There have been programs for the elderly and low income people to spay and neuter their animals, funded by private groups. Cheaper in the long run, if these animals get fixed, rather than let them reproduce and then dump off the unwanted offspring at the nearest shelter, which DOES cost the taxpayers money. There have also been groups that help low income people pay for vet bills etc., but these groups were always funded privately.
